When you find a dog that fits your needs, chat with the breeder to confirm your interest and find out more. Once you're ready to proceed further, simply make the necessary arrangements with the seller to bring your new friend home.
The Miniature Schnauzer is a German breed that was originally used for hunting rats and catching vermin around Germany. It has a lot in common with full-size and Giant Schnauzers too, but Mini Schnauzers are a unique breed in their own right, well-known for intelligence, portability, and people-loving nature.
Thanks to their small size and their low shedding coats, Mini Schnauzers can be a terrific choice for apartments and small homes. With that said, these pups are no slouches! They may be small, but they have quite high energy levels, so will need plenty of regular exercise and require an active, committed owner who can spend lots of time with them.

You can certainly apply to join the Uptown family and membership is free, but you'll need to pass our tests first. We don't just approve every single breeder; we vet them all and only work with those who can meet the standards of our Breeder Pledge. No matter where you happen to live all over the US, the chances are pretty decent that there'l be a Mini Schnauzer breeder near your home. If not, you should still be able to find vetted breeders on Uptown who are more than happy to fly their pups over to major airports in your location or make other travel arrangements that work for you.
Once you've chosen a new dog on Uptown, you'll probably want to get them home as soon as possible, but there are a few little things to take care of first. Your chosen breeder will explain everything and keep you updated all the way as they make travel arrangements for your pup and organize a health check too. During this time, you can ask questions and get all the information you need.
Looking for the cheapest dogs of any breed is never a good idea, as it's often the worst kinds of sellers – such as scammers or puppy mills – who tend to have the lowest prices. They often trick people into buying unhealthy, mistreated pups with big vet bills and all sorts of problems to solve later on. On Uptown, you'll find happy, healthy dogs at fair prices.
Reputable shelters can be a terrific option, but they're not always the right choice. If you want to find a purebred pup of a specific breed, with full access to their health and behavioral history, buying from a breeder is the best way to go. With that said, we're not anti-shelter in any way and encourage everyone to think carefully and always find their dogs from humane, ethical sources, including both shelters and trusted breeders.
There's no need to worry about health issues when you choose to find your new pup with Uptown-approved breeders and businesses. All dogs provided by sellers on the Uptown network undergo nose-to-tail health checks with expert veterinarians to check for any underlying issues or health concerns, and you'll get a full report before you even bring your dog home.
Mini Schnauzers may be small, but they have quite big exercise requirements. They'll need at least one mid-length walk each day, and in some cases, two walks might be needed to really tire them out. Always remember that dogs that don't get enough exercise are more likely to gain weight, suffer health issues, and get bored or even destructive, so make sure you have enough free time to keep your dog fit and happy.
We don't tend to recommend any specific food types or brands for any breed of dog, including the Mini Schnauzer. Why? Well, in our experience, we've found that every dog is unique. One Mini Schnauzer might gobble up every kind of food without any issues, but the next Mini Schnauzer might be far fussier. Take your time and experiment with a few different choices to see what your dog likes best.
