Questions & Answers
It's highly likely that there are some Pomeranian breeders in your area, especially given the popularity of this breed. However, even if your dream dog is a little further away, that won't be a problem! The approved breeders of the Uptown network always make it easy to have your dog transported to your location or a convenient pick-up spot nearby.
The Uptown Breeder Pledge is a set of 47 key points that we ask all of our vetted breeders to comply with. These points cover every aspect of breeding, raising, and pairing puppies with the right owners, and the pledge itself was designed to help us support ethical breeders and avoid puppy mills.
Getting listed on Uptown is free, but you'll need to qualify for the network and commit to following all 47 principles of our Breeder Pledge. Take a look at the pledge to get started, and apply if you feel you fit the bill. If you get approved, you'll be able to display our Five-Star Breeder Badge on your site, as well as enjoying all the benefits of your own Breeder Profile on Uptown.
Totally! Pomeranians are one of the very best apartment breeds for several reasons. For starters, they're really small, so they definitely don't need huge homes or massive backyards to feel content. They're also very much a cuddly companion breed, with relatively low exercise requirements, so they don't feel the need to run around for hours on end like some other dogs.
Pomeranians come in a range of sizes and coat colors, and it can be quite a challenge to pick which puppy you want from a typical litter as there are so many cute optios! Thankfully, the Uptown network is vast, including vetted breeders producing Poms of all kinds, so you can take a look through the available Pomeranian puppies and find one that meets your needs.
The Pomeranian (also known as the Pom) is a Spritz breed. It was named after its homeland of Pomerania, which is now spread out across Germany and Poland, and the breed first became known in the 18th century. It was popular with royals and nobles around Europe in those days, but as time went by, more and more people got access to these cuddly little furballs.
It's perfectly normal and natural to have some concerns about your new pup's health, but you won't have to worry about a thing if you work with an Uptown-approved breeder or business. They always carry out health checks on the dogs they sell, giving you a full report of your chosen puppy's health status. We also recommend visiting your own vet once you get your dog home for a secondary check-up.
The Pomeranian isn't a particularly active or energetic breed, and it has fairly low exercise requirements. These dogs are therefore quite well-suited to owners of varying ages and lifestyles, and you don't need to worry too much about walking them for hours every single day. With that said, they do still need a daily walk and regular opportunities to stretch their legs.
Even within breeds, every dog is different. One Pomeranian might hungrily gobble up any kind of food, for example, while the next will be much more fussy and picky with its dietary preferences. For this reason, we don't recommend any specific food types. Instead, we encourage new owners to get to know their pups, as well as reading reviews, speaking with their vet, and trying a few different food options to build up a balanced doggy diet.
Shelters do wonderful work in rehoming neglected or abandoned dogs, and they can be a fine choice in some situations, but there are times when buying from a breeder is a better option. If you want a specific breed, like a Pomeranian, and want to know about its health history and pedigree, for example, breeders will be better-suited to meet your needs.
If you're ready to start the search for your next furry friend, we're here to help out! Step one is to take a look through the available Pomeranians from vetted breeders throughout the Uptown network until you find one you like. After that, you can chat with the breeders to register your interest and learn more, before proceeding to arrange transport, health checks, and bring your new friend home.
One of the benefits of buying from Uptown approved breeders and businesses is that you can handle most of the process from the comfort of your own home. Once you've selected a puppy, the breeder will usually offer you a few different transportation methods to choose from, including the options of having the puppy delivered to an airport near you (Lower 48 only) or even shipped straight to your location.
