Questions & Answers
It doesn't matter which state you're in, you'll probably be able to find quite a few Poodle breeders nearby, as the Poodle is traditionally one of the most popular canine companions in the US. Even if you can't find a trustworthy breeder in your area, most of Uptown's vetted breeders offer several transportation options to get your pup home.
If you're an ethical Poodle breeder, you're more than welcome to apply to join the Uptown network. The process is completely free, but you'll need to fill out an application and undergo the vetting process first of all, so take a read through our Breeder Pledge and make sure you meet all 47 of the points listed. If you get approved, you can enjoy all the benefits of Uptown membership, including your own Breeder Profile page and access to millions of dog lovers around the US.
The Poodle can actually be divided into a few sub-breeds, including Standard Poodles, Miniature Poodles, and Toy Poodles. They vary in size and appearance, but all Poodles are famed for their incredible intelligence and obedience, performing very well in dog sports and agility contests across the globe.
At Uptown, we're focused on working with the best possible people and supporting ethical breeding. We don't want to work with backyard breeders, puppy mills, and scammers, so that's why we developed our Breeder Pledge. It's a set of 47 standards regarding breeding and raising dogs that all of our approved breeders promise to follow.
Finding your new friend is the first step of the Uptown journey, and once that's complete, you can start communicating with the breeder to learn more about your dog, as well as making the arrangements to bring it home. Breeders will usually offer a few different transportation methods, and they'll carry out health checks too, keeping you updated every step of the way.
It's important to have a budget in mind when buying a dog, but looking exclusively for the 'cheapest' pups can be quite a dangerous move. Often, the dogs with the lowest price tags are sold by the most unethical and dishonest breeders. They often have health issues that can cost way more money to fix. At Uptown, you'll find fairly-priced puppies, raised the right way and sold by trusted breeders.
Many people hesitate between visiting a local shelter or buying from a breeder, and there are pros and cons on both sides. We fully support the inspiring work done by shelters across the US, but there are times when buying from a breeder is better, as breeders are able to offer more choices to help you find a puppy that really fits your home and lifestyle, as well as giving you lots more health information and behavior background too.
Health is always a big concern for anyone looking for a puppy, but you won't need to worry about that on Uptown. Not only do we vet breeders and businesses to only work with the most ethical and professional, but the featured breeders on Uptown also promise to carry out health checks on every dog they sell before sending it out to the buyer's home. We recommend visiting your own local vet ASAP as well just to be sure that everything is fine with your new friend.
Experts recommend that Poodles get about an hour of exercise per day. Toy and Miniature Poodles might need a little less, and these dogs aren't the most energetic of all, but they do enjoy getting outside and exploring the world, as well as playing fetch in the backyard or learning new tricks and skills with their owners.
There are so many different types and brands of dog food out there, and trying to choose the right one for your furry friend can feel like quite a challenge. We don't recommend any brand in particular, as different dogs can have totally different preferences. Instead we encourage new owners to read reviews to find the best brands and speak with their vets for expert advice.
Uptown has put together a network of trusted, ethical breeders across the US, without a single puppy mill in sight. All you need to do to find your dream dog is take a look through the available pups and speak with the sellers to learn more. Once you've found one, you can work with the seller to make arrangements to bring it home.
Once you've chosen the perfect pup for your home, you'll be able to arrange transportation with the breeder. Different breeders throughout the Uptown network will offer different transport options to bring you and your dog together at last. One of the most popular options we see our users choosing is to have their puppies flown safely over to a major airport in their area (excluding Hawaii and Alaska).
