Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are considered to be one of the most unique and interesting dogs around. They are a cross between two beloved breeds the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle and as such have a mixed set of traits that are quite unique among dog breeds. Aussiedoodles can vary in size and shape, depending on their parentage, but they are generally quite friendly and loving dogs. They are also highly intelligent and eager to please, making them great family pets. They have a healthy energy level and are generally quite athletic which makes them an excellent choice for active households.
Aussiedoodles typically do not shed much or at all. Their coats can range from lightly-shedding to non-shedding, depending on the particular combination of their parent breeds. Due to their hybrid nature, Aussiedoodles tend to have a lowto no-shedding coat that may require a bit more maintenance in terms of brushing and other grooming. Generally speaking, owners consider their coat type to be low-shedding, although some may experience regular shedding, but nowhere near as much as a purebred dog.
Aussiedoodles should not be given any foods that contain artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Human foods that are too high in fat, such as french fries, bacon, and processed meats, should also be avoided. Additionally, foods that are too high in sugar, salt, and calories should not be included in your Aussiedoodle's diet. Foods that cause allergies, for example peanuts, walnuts, and certain grains, should be avoided as well.
Before you bring your new Aussiedoodle home, take the time to properly prepare your home. Start by puppy-proofing the area: cover electrical sockets, tape loose cords, and block off areas dogs often explore, such as stairs. Securely store away any medications, detergents, cleaners, and other potentially toxic items. Stock up on food, treats, bedding, toys, and any other supplies your Aussiedoodle may need. Familiarize yourself with appropriate grooming tools and determine when you need to take your pup to the vet for care.
Aussiedoodles come in a variety of sizes, depending on the genetics of their parents. The most common size is a medium size, which averages between 18 and 35 pounds. Smaller sizes can range down to 10-15 pounds, while larger sizes can be over 60 pounds. Of course, these are just estimates, and the final size of an Aussiedoodle generally depends on the sizes of the parent dogs. An Aussiedoodle's size and weight can only be accurately determined when they are full-grown.
Yes, Aussiedoodles do tend to love water and swimming. Their backgrounds include the Australian Shepherd which was bred to herd and the Poodle which is a water-loving breed. They have a natural affinity for water and love to take swims in lakes, pools, or any body of water. Aussiedoodles make great swimming companions and enjoy playing fetch and other games in the water.
Yes, Aussiedoodles typically get along very well with other pets, as they are known for being friendly and sociable. They are typically very accepting of other household pets and will nowadays become good friends with them when given enough time and patience. As Aussiedoodles are highly intelligent and loyal, owners can expect a wonderful dynamic when their Aussiedoodle is around other furry friends. With proper socialization during puppyhood and provided there is mutual respect between the pets, owners can expect a harmonious home filled with love and friendship.
Training an Aussiedoodle requires patience and consistency. To get started, make sure you have the appropriate equipment like leashes, collars and treats. Familiarize yourself with basic commands such as sit, stay and come; once your pup is comfortable with these commands, you can start teaching more complicated behaviors like walking nicely on a leash, using a clicker, and focus commands. It's important to take your time and to understand that every pup is different.
