Questions & Answers
One of the most interesting things about Aussiedoodles is their unique combination of two wonderful parent breeds the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle. This fun-loving breed has the intelligence of a Poodle and the strong work-ethic of an Australian Shepherd. They also have beautiful, silky coats, which can be wavy or curly in a variety of colors and patterns. Additionally, Aussiedoodles are highly energetic and thrive on activity, making them perfect companions for long walks or a game of fetch. With proper training, they make exceptionally loyal and affectionate family pets.
Aussiedoodles are often thought of as hypoallergenic because they are a cross between two low-shedding breeds. However, this is not always the case. There is no guarantee that all Aussiedoodles will be hypoallergenic, as allergens can be passed down from either breed. For this reason, it is best to do an allergy test with a small sample of Aussiedoodle fur before bringing one home.
Aussiedoodles should not be fed chocolate, grapes, raisins, nuts, caffeine, or anything with a high fat content. Other human foods that could be dangerous to your Aussiedoodle include onions, garlic, and mushrooms. These foods can disparage your Aussiedoodle's health and cause a number of health issues. You should also take care when feeding your Aussiedoodle raw chicken, pork, or bones, as they can cause choking or blockage of intestines, and other complications can arise.
In order to prepare your home for a new Aussiedoodle, consider the following steps: Firstly, create a space that’s exclusively for your dog, such as a soft bed or a kennel, since this can provide a sense of security. Secondly, make sure the house is outfitted with all the necessary items to make your pup comfortable, such as food and water dishes, toys, and treats. Additionally, be sure to set up boundaries and rules that your pup will clearly understand and that everyone in your home can abide by.
Aussiedoodle puppies vary in size, but in general will weigh between 15 and 70 pounds and stand between 13 and 24 inches at the shoulder when fully grown. It's important to make sure you've done your research on the breed before you make a commitment—the expectations for size are different with Aussiedoodles than with other designer breeds. It's best to contact a reputable breeder to get a better understanding of what to expect from your puppy. Additionally, a good diet, regular exercise, and proper grooming will help ensure your Aussiedoodle grows to its fullest potential.
Aussiedoodles are a moderately active breed and generally require at least an hour of activity and play each day to stay healthy and fit. It's important to provide these dogs with regular exercise and mental stimulation in the form of walks, runs, hikes, or even agility or flyball classes to help them get rid of any pent-up energy and stay mentally and physically active. Aussiedoodles that are not provided enough exercise can develop bad habits like being destructive in the home, barking, or exhibiting separation anxiety.
Aussiedoodles make wonderful pets for first-time owners. These hybrids of the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle breed, boast an even-tempered, loyal, and intelligent personality. They can easily be trained to obey commands and tend to be less aggressive and more laid back than there parent breeds. Aussiedoodles are a low-shedding breed, so they are good for those with allergies. With the right attitude and dedication, first-time owners will have no problem caring for an Aussiedoodle.
Training an Aussiedoodle, or any pup for that matter, requires consistency, patience, and reward. Start by determining which behaviors you want to reward and which behaviors you don't want to encourage. Develop a consistent set of commands, such as sit or stay, and use treats, verbal praise, or even toys to reward successful behavior. Be sure to have a quiet, distraction-free environment and time for your Aussiedoodle to focus. When possible, use negative reinforcement (like gently tapping a corrective vocal command) for behaviors you don't want to encourage.
