Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are an amazing mixture of two wonderfully loving and intelligent breeds: the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle. They make wonderful family dogs that are loving, loyal, and devoted, but they are also highly trainable and quite mischievous, making them infinitely entertaining. The Australian Shepherd half of the mix brings a wonderfully high level of intelligence and energy, while the Poodle half adds an effortless and dignified sweetness and calmness to their nature. These sweet dogs are incredibly intuitive concerning their family's moods and feelings, making them perfect snuggle buddies and loyal companions.
Aussiedoodles are considered a hypoallergenic breed, meaning that they have a low probability of producing allergic reactions in humans. This is due, in part, to their low-shedding nature and the fact that they are hybrids between an Australian Shepherd and a standard poodle, both of which are considered hypoallergenic breeds. However, the amount of allergens that an Aussiedoodle produces will depend upon the individual dog and its coat care routine.
Aussiedoodles are known to be an intelligent, friendly, and energetic breed, but it's important to remember that like all dogs, they must be given the right kind of food. Aussiedoodles should never be fed things like cooked bones, chocolate, onions or garlic, grapes, raisins, or macadamia nuts, as these can be toxic to them. Human food should be avoided, as it can be too rich and fatty for a dog, plus dogs don't usually get the kind of nutrients they need from things like sandwiches, chips, and ice cream.
Aussiedoodles typically have the same exercise, diet, and grooming needs as any other healthy pup. They do have a higher energy level than some breeds, so they need extra attention in the form of exercise or playtime. Regular brushing and bathing may be required depending on the coat type of the individual Aussiedoodle. They may need to have their nails trimmed to prevent them from getting too long and unhealthy. Additionally, Aussiedoodles thrive on social interaction with humans and their canine counterparts, so providing them with plenty of love and affection is a must.
Aussiedoodles, a hybrid between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, can range in size from small to medium in adulthood. While smaller Aussiedoodles average between 10-25 pounds and stand a maximum of 18-24 inches in height, larger Aussiedoodles can reach up to 35-50 pounds and stand between 20-26 inches. Therefore, Aussiedoodles can be considered small dogs with the smallest size, or they can be considered medium-large dogs with the largest sizes.
Aussiedoodles typically need daily exercise to prevent boredom and behavior problems. It's recommended that your Aussiedoodle get at least an hour of physical and mental stimulation each day. This can include a combination of activities such as intense play, training, walking, jogging, swimming, agility, or flying disc. With proper exercise, your Aussiedoodle will stay happy and maintain their physical and mental health. Always check with your vet to make sure the type and amount of exercise is appropriate for your Aussiedoodle's particular age, size, and breed mix.
Aussiedoodles typically enjoy the company of other pets. In fact, since Aussiedoodles have a strong herding drive, they may view other animals as their ‘herd’ and take responsibility for their care. With proper socialization, Aussiedoodles get along with other pets and can even be taught to enjoy playing with them. When introducing an Aussiedoodle to other animals, it is important to do so gradually, make sure everyone is supervised, and introduce them in a safe, familiar environment such as the home.
The amount of time needed to train Aussiedoodles varies depending on the particular needs of the pup and the skill level of the trainer. Generally speaking, a good baseline is 30 minutes a day. If the pup is having difficulty understanding concepts or is easily distracted, providing 1-2 longer training sessions of 45-60 minutes a day may be beneficial. Overall, consistency is important, so ensure to have regular training sessions and remain patient and firm.
