Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are truly unique and interesting dogs. Not only are they intelligent, loyal, and highly trainable, they also boast an unusually beautiful aesthetic. Their luxurious coats come in a stunning range of colors, from pure white to a gorgeous mix of blue, red, and silver. Plus, they grow surprisingly quickly, meaning you live with an adorable puppy for an extended period of time before they reach full size. This combined with their high energy levels makes them lots of fun for people of all ages. Furthermore, they are fairly hypoallergenic and low-shedding.
Aussiedoodles are generally hypoallergenic, although they do not belong to the list of 100% hypoallergenic breeds. These dogs are considered to be less allergy-inducing than other doodle breeds due to their low-shedding coats. They are the result of crossing an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, which means that they may have traits from both parent breeds including hypoallergenic qualities.
Aussiedoodles do not have specific dietary needs that are distinct from other breeds; however, they require a balanced nutritional diet. A high-quality, well-balanced diet with an appropriate mix of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and vitamins will enable an Aussiedoodle to remain healthy and active. It is important to also monitor portions as these dogs can be prone to weight gain if their food intake is not appropriately monitored. Aussiedoodles will benefit from proper nutrition and exercise, and will also benefit from an occasional treat.
Aussiedoodles don't have any special requirements that are different from other dogs. But they, like all dogs, do require proper nutrition, regular exercise, regular grooming, veterinary care, and tons of love and attention. Aussiedoodles thrive when spending time with humans, so they need lots of interaction with them. They should be trained early to help ensure they follow your household's rules. As they are a highly active breed, they do need plenty of mental and physical stimulation in the form of outdoor play and structured activities. Obedience classes are also useful to refine their training.
Aussiedoodles can range in size, but most are considered medium-sized dogs. Typically, Aussiedoodles weigh anywhere between 40-65 pounds and stand between 18-23 inches tall. Their size depends on the breed of the parent puppies. For instance, if both parents are Toy Poodles, the Aussiedoodle puppies will be smaller than if both parents are Standard Poodles. That's why it's important to research the parents of the puppies carefully when considering an Aussiedoodle.
Aussiedoodles generally love the water, and swimming is no exception! Many Aussiedoodles have a natural affinity for swimming, making it an enjoyable activity for both owner and pup. While it's important to ease your pup into swimming and slowly build up their confidence, it's likely they will quickly take to it and come to love the activity. Many Aussiedoodles enjoy the range of motion and freedom in the water, as well as the paddling that comes naturally to them.
Aussiedoodles usually do well with other pets, provided they are socialized from a young age and taught appropriate behavior. Proper training and consistent reinforcement of core socialization values are also key to developing a pleasant, harmonious relationship between the Aussiedoodle and other pets. That being said, it's important to remember that each animal has a unique personality and that some Aussiedoodles may not respond positively to the presence of another pet.
Training your Aussiedoodle should begin as soon as you bring your pup home. Start by teaching your pup his name and then work on basic commands such as “sit,” “stay,” and “come.” These commands should all be accompanied by positive reinforcement such as treats and verbal praise. Be sure to transition from the reward-based treats to verbal praise once your pup understands the command. Additionally, socializing your pup with other dogs is essential to ensure your pup is tame around people and other animals.
