Questions & Answers
An Aussiedoodle is a cross-breed designer dog created by crossing a purebred Australian Shepherd and a purebred Poodle. Aussiedoodles are intelligent, loyal and loving family companions, and generally inherit the best traits of both parents. They are easily trainable, have great energy levels and usually have low to no-shedding coats, so require minimal grooming. Aussiedoodles are adaptable to most lifestyles, such as apartment living, and size range from small to large depending on the size of the parent breeds used.
The Aussiedoodle coat is truly unique. It's a combination of the coats from its parent breeds, the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle, which provides a double-coated breed with a soft, fluffy undercoat and a long and curly outer coat. They are also very low-shedding and hypoallergenic, making them ideal for allergy sufferers. The coat is usually a combination of black, white and light shades of brown, tan or grey, and may even have merle markings.
Aussiedoodles should not be fed bones, chocolate, caffeine, alcoholic beverages, human food, dairy products, grapes or raisins, fatty foods, nuts and seeds, or anything that is overly sweet or salty. As with many breeds, Aussiedoodles benefit from a balanced diet of high-quality proteins, carbohydrates, and fibers. Remember to gradually transition to a new diet to avoid gastrointestinal-upsets. Feeding your Aussiedoodle proper portions of high-quality dog food will help ensure it stays in optimal health and not become obese.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Aussiedoodle requires patience, consistency, and dedication. Start by getting to know your pup and the unique characteristics they possess, as this will help guide you in developing the best approach for raising them. Spend time together playing, training, and even just snuggling so that your puppy will bond with you. Teach them early on how to obey basic commands and reward them for good behavior. Additionally, be sure that they get an adequate amount of exercise each day as it will help prevent destructive behavior.
Aussiedoodles come in a range of sizes, from tiny (sometimes toy-sized) to standard or medium sizes. Depending on the size of the parent breeds used, a litter of Aussiedoodle puppies can contain a variety of sizes. The most common Aussiedoodle sizes are Miniature (14-18 inches at the shoulder, weighing approximately 10-25 lbs.), Medium (18-22 inches at the shoulder, weighing approximately 25-35 lbs.), and Standard (22-26 inches at the shoulder, weighing 35-55 lbs.).
Absolutely! Aussiedoodles can make great running companions, provided you properly train and prepare them for the activity. However, because Aussiedoodles are a hybrid breed, their exact temperament and physical needs can vary greatly. Before getting started, it's important to understand your individual dog's physical capabilities and limitations, pay close attention to the temperature, and ensure your Aussiedoodle is up-to-date on vaccinations and parasite prevention. Also, never take your pooch running as a pup.
Absolutely! Aussiedoodles are intelligent, loyal, and friendly, making them an excellent choice for families looking to welcome a four-legged companion for the first time. They are relatively low maintenance, easy to train, and thrive on companionship and quality time with their owners. Their fun and playful personality also make them great family pets as they love to bond with their owners through activities like fetch, swimming, and hide and seek. It is essential, however, that they receive the exercise and mental stimulation that their high-energy demands.
Aussiedoodles need regular exercise to stay healthy and happy, and the amount of exercise they require will vary based on their age, size, and energy level. Generally speaking, for an adult Aussiedoodle, you should aim to provide at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. If your pup is still a puppy, you should start with shorter training sessions, slowly working up to the 30-minute minimum as they grow and their endurance increases.
