Questions & Answers
An Aussiedoodle is a hybrid dog breed resulting from the pairing of an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. These intelligent, low-shedding, and highly trainable dogs have a playful and energetic personality that makes them popular pets for many families. An Aussiedoodle can be born in a variety of sizes, ranging from 14 to 22 inches in height and weighing anywhere from 15 to 55 pounds. They also come in all sorts of color combinations, from solid black and white, to merle and abstract coloring.
The Aussiedoodle's coat is truly unique. This hybrid breed has a double coat consisting of a thick, weather-resistant top coat of medium to long length and a wooly undercoat that keeps them warm during cold weather. The coat may range from wavy to curly and comes in a variety of colors including white, black, apricot, sable, and red. The double coat of the Aussiedoodle makes it especially well suited to cooler climates and offers great protection from dirt and/or debris.
When looking for the best dog food for your Aussiedoodle, there are a few factors to keep in mind. Quality ingredients are key. Look for foods that are made from real meat and contain whole grains like oats and barley. Wholesome fruits and vegetables like sweet potatoes, broccoli, and blueberries are great additives, as they provide essential vitamins and minerals. It’s also important to find foods that will meet the special energy needs of your Aussiedoodle.
Aussiedoodles do have special requirements that need to be met to ensure their physical and mental well-being. Like other hybrid dogs, they are known to have protective instincts as well as a strong herding instinct that must be managed to avoid unpredictable behaviors. Aussiedoodles have an average lifespan of up to 15 years and need a good diet, regular exercise, mental stimulation and socialization to stay healthy. They require routine grooming, with brushing and occasional trips to the groomer, to keep their coats and nails in tip-top shape.
Aussiedoodles can be considered small dogs, depending on their growth. Although the average Aussiedoodle is of a medium size, due to their hybrid nature, Aussiedoodle sizes can range from small to large. However, the Aussiedoodle usually takes on the smaller size of its parent breeds, which include the Miniature Australian Shepherd and the Toy or Miniature Poodle. Therefore, these dogs will usually range in height from 10 to 24 inches and weigh anywhere between 10 and 60 pounds.
It depends on the age and energy level of your Aussiedoodle. Generally speaking, an adult Aussiedoodle should get between 30-60 minutes of exercise daily, depending on energy level. Puppies or high-energy dogs may require up to 90 minutes of exercise per day while seniors may only need 30 minutes of a moderate walk. Making sure to mix up the type of exercise and provide mental stimulation such as walks in different parks or objects to sniff can help increase the effectiveness of the walk.
Generally speaking, Aussiedoodles are great dogs for families with children. They are known for their loving and loyal temperament, and enjoy playing and cuddling with kids. Due to their intelligence and trainability, they can be easily taught how to behave around children and other peoples' possessions. Aussiedoodles get along best with kids if raised with them or if they are exposed to them from a young age. Proper socialization and obedience training is recommended to ensure that they grow up to be calm, well-adjusted, and aware of their place in the pack.
Training an Aussiedoodle is no walk in the park. Depending on the pup's personality, intelligence, and temperament, some Aussiedoodles may take to the training process quicker than others. Despite the potential challenge of training an Aussiedoodle, with patience and consistency, the pet can be taught proper behaviors and commands. Doing training sessions several times a week and rewarding your Aussiedoodle with encouragement and treats can help reinforce desired behaviors. Additionally, taking your Aussiedoodle to socialization events can help build their confidence and help hone skills that will ultimately make training easier.
