Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a designer breed made up of an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. As a result, they are classified as a non-purebred or mixed breed dog. These pups have a variety of size, coat and color combinations; they have a fun, outgoing and friendly nature; and they can range from 10 to 30lbs in weight. Aussiedoodles are considered to be lowto non-shedders and are often hypoallergenic, making them an excellent choice for many families.
Aussiedoodles can be non-shedding depending on the parents used in the breeding program. The best way to breed for a low-shedding coat is to cross two non-shedding breeds, such as a Miniature Poodle and an Australian Shepherd. Aussiedoodles bred this way are referred to as F1b, or first-generation backcrosses. The genetic combination often results in a low-shedding, hypoallergenic coat that is ideal for those with allergies.
Aussiedoodles should not be fed chocolate, junk-food, or candy. These can be poisonous and even fatal to your Aussiedoodle. Additionally, they should not be given table scraps or excessive amounts of treats as these can lead to nutritional deficiencies, weight gain, and other health issues. You should also avoid food that may be too fatty or contain too much salt, sugar or preservatives, as these can be harmful. It's important to use a well-balanced pet diet primarily developed for the Aussiedoodle breed to provide them the best nutrition and prevent complications.
Before bringing your new Aussiedoodle home, you should be sure to properly prepare. The first step is to procure the necessary supplies this includes food, toys, bedding, and a crate or gate if you intend to crate train. You should also research training and dietary guidelines for the breed, as well as groomers in your area, as they will require periodic grooming. From there, you should create an environment that allows your Aussiedoodle to feel comfortable and safe. To further familiarize yourself with your pet, consult other pet owners, experts, and your vet.
Aussiedoodle puppies come in a range of sizes, depending on the parent breeds. The Aussiedoodle is a cross breed between the Australian Shepherd and the Standard Poodle. While most Aussiedoodles are going to be a medium-sized dog, the exact size of your puppy will depend on the sizes of its parents. Generally, Standard Poodles are between 40-70lbs, while the Australian Shepherd comes in slightly smaller at 40-55lbs. With a few exceptions, most Aussiedoodle puppies will grow to be somewhere in that range.
Aussiedoodles generally do enjoy spending time in the water. As with most dog breeds, the amount of love that an Aussiedoodle has for swimming is largely dependent on the individual dog. Some may not find the sensation of being submerged in water to be all that enjoyable, though many active Aussiedoodles will happily take part in swimming. Make sure to always supervise them when they are swimming and to take appropriate safety measures to ensure that they are not at risk of drowning or struggling in the water.
Aussiedoodles are a great dog breed choice for first-time owners. Although they posses a certain amount of energy and need daily activity, they're relatively easy to train, are generally healthy, and typically quite loyal. Their smarts and willingness to please make training and reinforcing good behaviors a breeze, especially when owners begin early by socializing the pup. In terms of health, Aussies are not only physically strong but relatively free of issues compared to other breeds.
Training an Aussiedoodle can be a rewarding experience, but it isn't necessarily easy. Every dog is different and will learn differently. However, if you establish a set of rules and stick to them in a consistent fashion, you can usually expect successful results. It goes without saying that positive reinforcement like treats, toys, and lots of verbal praise generally work better than punishment-based techniques, though the latter can be helpful in certain situations. Proper socialization is also key to ensuring your Aussiedoodle can handle situations out in the real world.
