Questions & Answers
An Aussiedoodle is a hybrid or designer dog that is a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. They are beloved for their intelligence, loyalty, and friendly nature. Physically, they have a medium length coat that can be curly or wavy with a variety of colors, including Black, Red, Apricot, Chocolate, White, and sometimes Silver. Aussiedoodles can be a great fit for active owners and families since they are athletic and love to play and cuddle.
Aussiedoodles are generally considered to be hypoallergenic, due to their low-shedding, wavy coats. This is because the F1 Aussiedoodle is bred from an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, both of which are hypoallergenic breeds. However, it's important to note that while Aussiedoodles are low-shedding and mostly non-allergenic, no coat can be guaranteed to be 100% hypoallergenic.
Aussiedoodles should not be fed human foods like raw bread dough, candy, ice cream, popcorn, nuts, onions, garlic, grapes, alcohol, caffeine, and fatty products like bacon and salami. Table scraps should also be avoided. In addition, you should avoid feeding them pet foods that contain chemical preservatives, artificial colors, flavors, and fillers, which will not provide the appropriate nutrition. It is best to feed Aussiedoodles specifically formulated puppy or adult dog food to ensure they are getting the right kind of nutrition for their age and level of activity.
To prepare your home for a new Aussiedoodle, it is important to create a comfortable and safe environment. Begin by puppy proofing the home by ensuring any electrical cords are tucked away safely, and any hazards such as house plants, fragile items, and cleaning supplies are put away securely. To help your pup adjust, provide a designated sleeping area such as a crate with blankets, as well as several items like chew toys and bones and separate areas for eating and elimination. Ensure that you have plenty of quality food, comfortable bedding, and leash and collar supplies for walks.
The size of your Aussiedoodle puppy once fully grown will depend on several factors, including the size of each of the puppies' parent breeds. The Australian Shepherd can weigh up to around 70 pounds and stand 20 to 23 inches tall at the shoulder, while the Poodle stands an average of 22 to 28 inches tall and weighs up to around 75 pounds for a Standard. An Aussiedoodle hybrid could end up falling anywhere in between these two heights and can weigh anywhere from 15 to more than 70 pounds.
It is recommended to walk your Aussiedoodle for at least 30 minutes per day. Exercise is very important for this breed both mental and physical. They need regular opportunities to explore their environment and lots of vigorous play time to stay healthy and happy. A daily 30 minute walk should include brisk walking, running, and plenty of sniffing and stopping to investigate the great outdoors. If you can, also mixing in playtime like fetch and agility training will help keep your pup engaged and in prime health.
Aussiedoodles can often get along well with other pets. Because of their friendly, outgoing temperaments and loyal personalities, they are very enthusiastic when it comes to accepting new playmates. The best way to ensure a harmonious relationship between your Aussiedoodle and other pets is to socialize them when they are puppies to build a strong foundation of understanding and safety. This will help them learn how to be gentle and polite to each other, and allow them to really get to know each other.
Training your Aussiedoodle can be a rewarding experience if done correctly. Start by building a bond with your pup before establishing any sort of routine. Positive reinforcement is the key to successful training. Be sure to reward your pup with treats, verbal praise, and lots of attention when executing commands correctly. Initially, it is important to keep sessions short and manageable no more than 10 minutes and to end each session on a positive note. As your pup progresses, you can add more complex activities and gradually lengthen the duration of each session.
