Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a crossbreed between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. They are highly intelligent and energetic, and have a pleasant temperament. They can be either a Toy, Miniature, or Standard size, depending on if their parent is a Toy Poodle or a Standard Poodle. Their coats vary depending on the poodle parent, ranging from short and fine to long and slightly wavy.
Aussiedoodles are typically considered hypoallergenic due to their genetic makeup. They are a hybrid breed resulting from an Australian Shepherd and a Standard Poodle, which are both known for their minimal shed and hypoallergenic coats. Since Aussiedoodles take on the traits of their parents, they tend to have a wavy, low-shed coat that won't bother most allergy sufferers. However, allergies vary from person to person and due to their hybrid nature, it can be difficult to predict how Aussiedoodles may affect someone's allergies.
Aussiedoodles typically enjoy a well-balanced diet of high-quality dry and wet food, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, depending on their age. The ideal meal plan for an Aussiedoodle should consist of protein, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats to provide them with the nutrients they need for optimum health. For puppies, multiple meals a day is recommended, while adult Aussiedoodles can usually be fed twice a day.
Before getting an Aussiedoodle, there are several essential items you should purchase. Firstly, it is important to equip your home with proper containment such as a crate or puppy playpen to give your pup their own safe space to retreat when needed. Additionally, comfortable bedding is essential as well as chew toys that will help keep them busy and deter them from chewing on furniture or other items. Also, make sure to have a high-quality food on hand and/or appropriate treats for training.
Aussiedoodles range in size depending on the specific variety, but generally speaking they are considered a medium-sized breed. On average, an Aussiedoodle will weigh anywhere from 15-65 pounds, and range in height from 14-23 inches, making them slightly larger than most small breeds. However, the size of an Aussiedoodle can vary depending on the type of genetic makeup they inherit from their parents; some Aussiedoodles may be slightly smaller or larger than average.
Aussiedoodles often show an enthusiastic love of swimming! Due to their hybridized Australian Shepherd and Poodle genetics, they tend to have a strong proclivity for jumping into the water. They typically enjoy playing in and near the water, and respond positively to structured swimming activities. Swimming can act as an activity for mental stimulation, exercise, and as a bonding experience with their owners. Aussiedoodles often have an innate awareness of how to paddle and keep themselves afloat, and due to their thicker coats of fur they also do not mind the cold.
Aussiedoodles generally get along with other pets, making them great additions to a multi-pet household. Because of their intelligence and natural friendliness, Aussiedoodles adjust to other pets quickly and can build lasting relationships with them. As long as the Aussiedoodle is properly trained and socialized, they can make excellent companions with other pets like cats, birds, and other dogs. Additionally, Aussiedoodles are highly affectionate and responsive to their owners, making them especially responsive to other pets that are part of the family.
It is recommended that Aussiedoodles receive between 30 minutes to one hour of exercise per day. This includes a combination of physical activity such as walking, playing fetch, and running, as well as mental stimulation such as playing games with interactive toys. Mental stimulation is especially important with Aussiedoodles, as these often high-energy dogs have a tendency to become easily bored. If you are unable to provide 30 60 minutes of exercise for your Aussiedoodle every day, make sure you spend some time each day engaging in mentally stimulating activities to keep your pup entertained and happy.
