Aussiedoodles are a designer breed made by crossing an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. They are considered a medium to large breed and usually weigh between 20-70 pounds when fully grown. Generally, they are quite intelligent, loyal, and loving dogs. Aussiedoodles have a herding instinct, so they need plenty of play and exercise. Also, they tend to be very vocal and eager to please. Aussiedoodles come in a variety of coat colors and a range of textures, most often becoming low to non-shedding.
The Aussiedoodle coat is generally soft, silky, and luxurious in texture. Depending on the generation of the dog, coat patterns and colors can vary, but oftentimes you'll see dense colors of black, cream, red, blue, brown, merle, sable, brindle, and/or phantom. The coat length can also be short and smooth, or slightly longer and wavy. Many times you'll find softer wispy fur on the face and muzzle that brings out their natural good-looks.
Aussiedoodles are one of the most popular, loving, and smart breeds. As such, it is important to feed your dog an optimal diet that will meet their energy requirements as well as provide all the necessary vitamins and minerals for them to be healthy. The best food for an Aussiedoodle should contain a high-quality, meat-based protein as the primary source of nutrients, including some fat for energy, and complex carbohydrates for slow, steady energy throughout the day.
Aussiedoodles typically require a moderate amount of exercise, and plenty of socialization and mental stimulation to remain balanced and content. They tend to bond deeply with their family members and may suffer from separation anxiety if they are over-lonely. Aussiedoodles typically enjoy swimming, as it is a naturally enjoyable activity for the Australian Shepherd and Poodle parent breeds. Swimming is considered a low-impact aerobic activity, so it's beneficial for keeping the Aussiedoodle healthy and in shape. Many owners provide their Aussiedoodle with a variety of water activities, such as ready access to a swimming pool or lake, playing in sprinklers, and doggy paddleboarding.
