Questions & Answers
An Aussiedoodle is a hybrid designer dog that is a mix between an Australian Shepherd and a Standard Poodle. They are an intelligent, active, and very friendly dog breed, making them ideal pets for active families. They do need plenty of physical and mental stimulation, so they should not be left to their own devices, as they may become mischievous. Aussiedoodles can be a great choice for families who like to hike, jog, or take their dog to the dog park, as they've got plenty of energy.
Aussiedoodles, as a hybrid breed, can vary in terms of their levels of hypoallergenicity. Generally speaking, they could be considered hypoallergenic, or at least low in allergens, due to the parent breeds being both poodles and Australian Shepherds, both of which are very low on the allergen scale. Hereditary factors typically pass from parent breeds to the hybrid breed, so while some Aussiedoodles may still trigger allergies, this is often not the case.
Aussiedoodles have sensitive digestive systems, so it is important to avoid feeding them any human foods that can upset their stomachs. Foods that are high in fat, such as poultry skin, processed meats, and butter should be avoided. As well, Aussiedoodles should not be given foods that are high in sugar or sodium such as desserts, snack foods, or condiments. It is also important not to give them anything containing the artificial sweetener xylitol, as it can lead to deadly complications.
Purchasing the necessary supplies before bringing an Aussiedoodle into your home is an important part of preparing for a new pet. Essential items you should have on hand include food and water dishes specifically meant for dogs, a collar with an ID tag attached, and a secure leash. You may also want to purchase a comfy bed, toys, shampoo for bathing, nail trimmers, and a toothbrush and toothpaste. You may want to consider some sort of training system such as a crate or playpen that comes with tools for making house training your Aussiedoodle easier.
Aussiedoodles come in a variety of sizes, from Toy, Miniature, and Standard. Toy Aussiedoodles weigh between 10 and 14 pounds; Miniature Aussiedoodles weigh 15-25 pounds; and Standard Aussiedoodles weigh 26 – 50 pounds. Although Aussiedoodles are often considered a medium-sized breed, their genetics and size can vary, as their parent breeds, the Australian Shepherd and Poodle, come in different sizes.
Aussiedoodles are active breeds of dogs that need regular physical activity. They are incredibly persistent, so it is important to both meet their mental and physical needs. On a daily basis, an Aussiedoodle should be getting a minimum of 60 minutes of exercise, which may include walking, running, racing, fetching, and swimming, as well as other forms of interactive play. With their eagerness to please and learn, providing your pup with activities that challenge them mentally, along with regular physical activity, will help keep your Aussiedoodle happy and content.
Aussiedoodles can be a great companion to children, especially if they receive socialization and obedience training early on. Their friendly nature and enthusiasm make them excellent family dogs, and they often bond closely with the children in their family. Aussiedoodles love being part of the family and doing activities with their owners, so they get along well with children. However, all dogs need to be supervised around young children in order to protect both the dog and the child, and it's important to teach children how to properly interact with dogs.
The amount of minutes per day you should train your Aussiedoodle depends on its age, energy, and the desired outcome. Generally, for working on social, physical, and mental development, you should plan for between 30 and 60 minutes of training every day. If you have adopted an older Aussiedoodle, it is important to start slow, incrementally building up to longer sessions each day. No matter the age or energy level, it is best to break up the training into multiple sessions each day approximately 10 minutes at a time.
