Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a hybrid of two popular breeds: the Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. They are not recognized as an official breed by the AKC, but they are friendly, smart, and active working dogs. Aussiedoodles are often considered to be miniature version of the larger Australian Shepherd and smaller than a Standard Poodle. Generally, they have a short, wavy coat varying from apricot, red, cream, white, black, grey, or brown that doesn't require much grooming and is hypoallergenic.
The Aussiedoodle is a hybrid breed with qualities from both the Poodle and the Australian Shepherd. They have a coat that is beautiful and unique, varying in size, texture and color depending on the parent breeds. Generally, the Aussiedoodle's coat is medium to long in length, and can be either wavy or curly. It is highly likely that their coat will be non-shedding and hypoallergenic, making it an ideal breed for those with allergies to dog fur.
Aussiedoodles are high-energy, active dogs and as such require a high-energy, nutrient-rich diet. For Aussiedoodles, choosing the best dog food means selecting a food designed to meet the nutritional needs of active, large breed dogs. Look for a diet that includes high-quality proteins, complex carbohydrates, essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. The best food should also be made with natural ingredients. It should be free from artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.
To prepare your home for a new Aussiedoodle, it is important to first ensure the safety of your pet. Establish a designated area for your doodle with appropriate toys, a comfortable bed, and space for play. Make sure that the area is secure with a height-appropriate fence or gate and consider the benefits of using a crate. Secondly, check the yard for any plants that could be poisonous to your pup, and be aware that xylitol can be fatal if ingested. Finally, look around the house for cords, cables, and anything enticing for your pup to chew.
Aussiedoodles vary in size depending on the kind of Poodle mixed with the Australian Shepherd; for example, a Toy Poodle will produce Aussiedoodles that are small in size, while a Standard Poodle will produce larger Aussiedoodles. Generally, Aussiedoodles fall into the "medium-sized" dog category, but they can sometimes be quite small, depending on which type of Poodle was used for the cross-breeding.
Walking your Aussiedoodle is an important part of not only keeping them healthy, but also helping create a strong bond. How much exercise you should give your pup depends on their age and size, but it is generally recommended that they get 30 minutes to an hour of exercise per day. For an adult Aussiedoodle, a minimum of 30 minutes per day of walking or other enjoyable activities such as playing fetch or running around a dog park is advised.
Aussiedoodles are known for having particularly good temperaments and are often great family pets. They tend to love people of all ages and get along well with kids. Aussiedoodles are very loyal and will form an especially strong bond with the children in a household. These friendly, social pooches have the energy to keep up with kids, but their intelligence makes them easy to train so they can learn the necessary social boundaries for interacting safely with youngsters. With proper socialization and plenty of attention and love, Aussiedoodles make excellent companions for children of all ages.
Training Aussiedoodles generally requires approximately 10-15 minutes of dedicated practice per day, at least 5 days per week. Depending on the high energy level of your Aussiedoodle, it may require more. Working with them on obedience and agility, as well as providing them with plenty of interesting activities and exercise can help to satisfy their need for mental and physical stimulation. Additionally, planning frequent socialization outings with other dogs and/or people is also beneficial.
