Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are an incredibly interesting and unique breed of dog. Not only are they incredibly cute and smart, but they are also cross-bred from two of the most popular dogs in the US: the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle. This combination results in a pup that is highly intelligent, loyal and friendly, and highly trainable as well. Aussiedoodles are often loving and affectionate animals, who bring an amazing level of joy to their owners lives. Additionally, they are low-shedding dogs meaning that they can still be enjoyed by people with mild allergies.
Aussiedoodles are considered a low to non-shedding breed, but they still require regular grooming to prevent any excess fur from entering the air. In general, the majority of Aussiedoodles will not heavily shed, however, this can be dependent on their coat type. The F1 Aussiedoodle (50% Australian Shepherd & 50% Poodle) will have a relatively low-shedding coat, while an F2 Aussiedoodle (25% Australian Shepherd & 75% Poodle) will have very minimal shedding.
Your Aussiedoodle should be fed a high-quality, nutritionally-balanced diet, with specific food choices based on its age, size and activity level. Aussiedoodle puppies typically need 25 to 30 percent protein in their diet and some brands of food specialize in different dietary needs according to age. Puppies should be fed three times a day until they are six months old, after which twice a day should be sufficient. Older dogs should be fed once or twice a day and it is important to limit calories to prevent obesity, which is a common issue amongst this breed.
Becoming the best puppy parent for an Aussiedoodle requires dedication and consistency. To start, socialization is extremely important. Exposing your pup to different people, places, activities, and other dogs at a young age will help make your Aussiedoodle a well-rounded, confident, and happy pup. Additionally, providing your pup with lots of positive reinforcement, such as treats, games, and lots of love, will encourage good behavior. Training is also paramount, as Aussiedoodles are highly intelligent and need mental stimulation to keep them engaged and out of trouble.
Aussiedoodles can vary greatly in size depending on their parental breeds. An F1 Aussiedoodle, which is the result of a purebred Poodle crossed with a purebred Australian Shepherd, can reach sizes of anywhere between 15-25 inches in height and 40-80 lbs in weight. Generally, Aussiedoodles are considered to be a medium to large sized breed when comparing them to other common dogs.
Aussiedoodles are usually fond of swimming, as they have part Australian Shepherd in their breed which is known for its swimming savvy. Generally speaking, Aussiedoodles have a natural love of water, and typically take to swimming well. Since they were bred to be companions, Aussiedoodles are highly active and swimming is a great way for them to get exercise and fulfill their instinctive desire for activity.
Aussiedoodles have a gentle and affectionate temperament that makes them ideally suited for families with children. They are highly intuitive dogs who enjoy playing with kids and generally get along well with them. Their size is also perfect for interactions with children, as they are usually neither too small nor too big to be overly intimidating. In addition, Aussiedoodles are highly loyal animals that can form strong bonds with children and family members. With proper training and socialization, Aussiedoodles are excellent family pets that will delight children for many years.
The amount of exercise your Aussiedoodle needs will depend on their age, energy levels, and any specific breed-related health issues. Generally, a daily walk of 30-60 minutes will provide enough exercise to keep your Aussiedoodle healthy and happy. If the weather isn't ideal for a lengthy walk, then shorter periods of indoor exercise or playtime can be substituted. You may want to increase the amount of exercise time if your Aussiedoodle is of a more active breed, or if they seem to need more energy to burn off.
