Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a hybrid designer breed, created from crossing an Australian Shepherd with a Standard or Miniature Poodle. They are classified as a "Designer Dog" because this cross-breeding of two purebreds, from different breeds, has resulted in an entirely new breed. Generally, they are loyal, smart, and friendly dogs that make great family pets. Due to the unique combination of their parents, they can vary in size, color, coat type, and temperament. Though usually medium in size, Aussiedoodles may grow very large or remain quite small.
The Aussiedoodle's coat is typically soft, wavy and low to non-shedding. Depending on the parents, their coat can range from light to dark apricot, creamy white, tan, brown, silver or even rustic. Most Aussiedoodles have a longer coat that requires regular brushing. They are versatile dogs who can live either indoors or outdoors and are suitable for all types of climates. The dense fur provides plenty of insulation in cold weather, making them ideal in colder regions.
Aussiedoodles are a popular hybrid breed of dog best known for their hypoallergenic characteristics, so they may need a special diet. Generally, these dogs tend to eat a balanced diet of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats to achieve their optimum weight and energy. Depending on the size of the Aussiedoodle, the daily amount of food should be in-line with their age and activity level. Dry kibble and wet food are among the food choices available to owners of Aussiedoodles, although some owners also provide supplements to their pet's diet.
Aussiedoodles, like all breeds, have certain requirements necessary for optimal health and wellbeing. Generally they need plenty of love and attention from their owners, and they need to be groomed regularly. It is also important to provide exercise and mental stimulation such as a daily walk, playtime or training sessions. Proper nutrition is important and supplies the energy and nutrients Aussiedoodles need to stay healthy and happy. Care must also be taken to prevent twisted digestive systems, skin allergies, or joint problems, which may be more common in this particular breed.
Aussiedoodles are generally considered medium-sized, but it depends on the parents used in the crossbreeding. These dogs can range in size from anywhere between 10-25 inches tall and weigh between 25-50 pounds. The Aussiedoodle can also grow much larger than that depending on which breeds its parents were. Commonly used breeds in Aussiedoodle crossbreeding are the Miniature Australian Shepherd and the Moyen Poodle. If bred incorrectly, it could result in a much larger Aussiedoodle pup.
An Aussiedoodle typically requires at least 30 minutes of daily exercise, with at least 20 minutes of that being dedicated to walking. It's important to walk your Aussiedoodle daily in order to tire him out and give him an outlet for his energy. However, the amount of time you should dedicate to walking your Aussiedoodle largely depends on his age and activity level. Generally, younger Aussiedoodles need shorter walks more frequently, while older ones can handle weekly long walks.
Aussiedoodles are known for their friendly and loving nature and are generally good with other pets. They have a strong loyalty streak and tend to be very affectionate with their owners and family pets. In most cases, Aussiedoodles get along quite well with both cats and dogs, and can learn to peacefully coexist. Generally, if well socialized from an early age, these intelligent dogs will befriend any animal they come across. Of course, introducing different animals or species into a home environment should be done with care and should always be supervised.
Training an Aussiedoodle requires a lot of patience and consistency. To begin with, it's important to not only train your Aussiedoodle, but also to get it used to being around people. This is done by taking frequent walks with the Aussiedoodle and having it experience new noises and settings. Additionally, it's important to reinforce commands and provide rewards for acceptable behavior. Training sessions should be short and success-based, so as not to overwhelm the pup.
