Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a fun and lively breed of dog. They are known for being social and incredibly smart, making them easy to train. They are the result of breeding an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle together, thus often giving them a thick curly coat of hair. They can have a wide variety of colors, including black and white, brown, cream, apricot, blue, gray, and red, and are often referred to as "double doodles".
Aussiedoodles can generally be considered hypoallergenic, as their coats are not known to shed much. While their hybrid heritage does mean that a high degree of unpredictability exists around what their coats are like, many owners have found that their fur doesn't generate allergic reactions. Furthermore, their coat is naturally silky and will rarely convey dander, an allergen that many breeds are known to produce. There is, however, no guarantee that a Aussiedoodle won't produce allergens, so anyone looking to buy one should take note and observe any potential reactions.
Aussiedoodles should not be fed human food such as cake, chocolate, candy, or sugar. These foods can cause health issues for them like diabetes or obesity. They should also avoid raw meat, dairy products, salty food, citrus fruits, and onions. These foods can have extremely detrimental health effects such as oral and digestive problems. Grapes, raisins, and macadamia nuts are not recommended as they are toxic to dogs. Aussiedoodles should also never be allowed to consume foods and treats that are not specifically made for dogs.
Before welcoming your Aussiedoodle into your home, it's important to make sure your space is ready. Preparing your home for your pup should include puppy-proofing it by putting away anything small or valuable that might be chewed on and creating an escape-proof area. You should also set up your pup's bed and other items, such as food bowls, toys, and a crate. Make sure to keep all human food out of reach and block off any area where your pup could hide or get stuck.
Aussiedoodles can be big dogs, depending on the size of the parent breeds. Generally, these dogs grow to weigh between 30 and 70 pounds and may reach heights of up to 23 inches at the shoulder. Aussiedoodles often have a muscular body type and a shaggy coat, making them appear larger than their actual weight. Because of their size, they tend to need more exercise and will benefit from more yard space compared to smaller dog breeds.
Aussiedoodles require quite a bit of exercise to stay healthy and happy. They need at least an hour of exercise per day which should include a walk, playtime with toys, and mental stimulation. Exercise helps them become well-socialized, burn off excess energy, and stay in shape. During the warmer months, Aussiedoodles should be given the opportunity to swim to stay cool and get exercise. With plenty of exercise, they can continue to grow and learn, as well as maintain healthy behaviors and emotions.
Aussiedoodles are excellent family dogs. They are loyal and loving companions, and their unique personalities make them great additions to any home. Aussiedoodles are smart dogs who love to learn, and they thrive off of positive reinforcement. They typically have high levels of energy and are eager to please their owners, making them great companions for a long walk, a game of fetch, or even a few hours of cuddling on the couch.
Training an Aussiedoodle can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience, but it is not necessarily easy. Every pup is different, so some may pick up on commands or obedience skills with ease while other may require more patience and effort. It is important to keep training consistent and reward any behaviors that you like. Positive reinforcement during training can go a long way in training an Aussiedoodle successfully. It helps to have a plan and stick with it so your pup can better understand what is expected of them.
