Aussiedoodles are a mixed breed of dog, produced by crossbreeding an Australian Shepherd with a Poodle. They are active, intelligent and loyal dogs that often make good companions for both adults and children. Aussiedoodles typically have high energy levels, making them well-suited for an outdoor lifestyle. They need regular and frequent exercise, and they can benefit from participation in events such as agility courses or flyball. They have a tendency to shed minimally, but regular grooming is recommended.
Aussiedoodles can be hypoallergenic depending on their coat type. Because they are a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, coats may vary in texture, size, and color. Generally, Aussiedoodles that have more of the Poodle's curly coat will be hypoallergenic, as the Poodle's coat produces less dander, which is often the cause of allergies in people. This is because curly fur doesn't shed as much and traps dander in the coat rather than releasing it into the air.
Aussiedoodles should not be fed any type of human food that contains garlic, onions, or raisins as these can be toxic to their digestive system. They should also not eat raw or undercooked meat, fish, or eggs, as these foods can contain Salmonella and other bacteria that can make your Aussiedoodle very sick. Avoid giving your pup bones, or any bone-like objects such as sticks, as these can become lodged in the intestine and require surgical removal. You should also designate an area outside for your dog to relieve himself and select a consistent, easy-to-follow schedule for your pup's feeding and potty times.
Aussiedoodles typically reach sizes between 10 and 23 inches, and can weigh anywhere between 10 to 70 pounds. The size of an Aussiedoodle will depend on which two parent dogs were used to create the mix. Generally speaking, an Aussiedoodle sired by a Toy or Miniature Australian Shepherd may reach smaller sizes up to 18 inches, while breeds like the Standard Poodle will result in larger Aussiedoodles that can reach sizes up to 23 inches. Consequently, Aussiedoodles with Standard Poodle sires may weigh up to 70 pounds.
Aussiedoodles need quite a bit of exercise. This breed of dog was developed to be an energetic and loyal companion. It is important that you walk or jog with your Aussiedoodle for at least an hour a day to help keep them healthy and in shape.
