Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are generally classified as medium-sized hybrid or designer dogs. A combination of an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, these unique dogs often range in size from 18 to 23 inches tall at the shoulder. They usually weigh up to 40 pounds. Color-wise, Aussiedoodles come in a variety of shades, such as black, white, chocolate, blue, cream, and red.
Aussiedoodles are usually considered to be hypoallergenic dogs. This means that they generally do not produce as much dander as other types of dogs, thus greatly reducing the chances of someone having an allergic reaction to them. However, allergens can come from many sources, including saliva, urine, or even environmental sources, such as pollen. Therefore, the only way to answer with a certain degree of certainty is to check with a doctor before bringing an Aussiedoodle into the home.
Aussiedoodles do not necessarily have special dietary needs, though they can be more prone to allergies and should be fed accordingly. Many Aussiedoodles do well with a diet that consists of limited-ingredient kibble and/or raw food or homemade diets. Diet should be well-balanced, with all the proper proteins and amounts of carbohydrates and fats for their size and energy needs. It is recommended to speak with a veterinarian to determine what type of diet will work best for each Aussiedoodle, as their individual needs may vary.
Before welcoming a new Aussiedoodle into your home, it's important to take the necessary steps to make sure you have a comfortable environment for them. Start by acquiring the necessary items such as food, a bed, dishes, and toys. Make sure to puppy-proof your home by securing electrical cords, sharp objects, and poisonous chemicals. Designate a place to store items such as toiletries, garbage, fragile objects, and food items to ensure your pup will have no access to them.
Aussiedoodles are a medium-sized breed, typically ranging in height from 20 to 24 inches and 25 to 70 lbs in weight. They can vary on the small to large size, depending on their parents. Generally, the large sizes of Aussiedoodles are created by crossing two Standard Poodles. As Aussiedoodles are still relatively new, they can vary significantly in size depending on the genetics of both parent breeds. Overall, the average size of an Aussiedoodle is between 30 and 50 lbs when full grown.
The amount of daily exercise an Aussiedoodle needs depends on their age, breed, health status, and activity level. Generally speaking, Aussiedoodles love to stay active and need at least 30 minutes of physical exertion each day to stay in top form. This can include running, playing fetch, running agility courses, and taking leisurely walks. While 30 minutes is a minimum, it is recommended that Aussiedoodle owners give their pup at least 45 minutes to an hour of exercise per day, divided into either one longer session or two shorter ones.
Aussiedoodles can generally do well with other animals when properly introduced and socialized. Aussiedoodles have an outgoing and friendly demeanor, which makes it easier for them to fit into a home with other pets. Though they can sometimes develop jealous behavior when attention is taken away from them, with proper training, Aussiedoodles have shown to be able to coexist peacefully with other animals in the household. Additionally, Aussiedoodles may even be good playmates with other animals, provided they have instructions and guidance when doing so.
Training an Aussiedoodle takes patience and commitment, but can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Start by setting aside a designated, distraction-free area for training where unwanted behaviors are not tolerated. It is important to use positive reinforcement when training your dog, such as treats, toys, and enthusiastic praise. Choose a recognized training method, such as clicker training or shaping, and remain consistent for best results. Be sure to give your pup plenty of potty and play breaks to avoid frustration and make learning fun.
