Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are an increasingly popular hybrid dog breed with a mix of both Australian Shepherd and Poodle. They are known as intelligent, friendly, and loyal companions who have exceptional obedience and agility. They have low-to no-shedding coats, which makes them ideal for those with allergies. The breed is usually a medium-size breed, weighing an average of 30-60 lbs. They are usually eager to please, making them easy to train and bond with. It is important to provide plenty of daily exercise and mental stimulation to maintain their physical and mental health.
Aussiedoodles can vary in terms of their hypoallergenic qualities, depending on their parent breeds. F1 Aussiedoodles (50% Poodle and 50% Australian Shepherd) are generally more allergy-friendly than F2, F3 or F4 Aussiedoodles which involve cross-breeding with Aussiedoodles. In general, however, Aussiedoodles can range anywhere from minimally shed to completely non-shed. This means they are unlikely to cause any health issues in people with allergies to dogs and other animals.
Aussiedoodles should not be fed any human food, such as chocolate, grapes, avocados, or candy, as these can cause severe GI issues for a dog. They should also not be fed any type of raw meat, dairy products, or anything with high levels of fat inside of it, as these can upset the stomach and make them sick. Feeding them cooked eggs, corn, or wheat can lead to allergies and other digestive issues as well. Offering them small treats that are appropriate for their size should be done sparingly.
Before adopting an Aussiedoodle, it is important to make sure you have all the essentials in place to provide your furry companion with a comfortable and safe home. Some essential items to consider will include a crate or playpen, proper bedding for sleeping, food and water bowls, dog toys, a leash and collar, grooming tools, treats, food, and most importantly, plenty of love and patience. Additionally, some health-related supplies may be wise purchases for a new puppy, such as flea treatment, flea and tick medication, shampoos, and dental products.
Aussiedoodles are often considered big dogs due to their medium-to-large size. Their average height can range between 15 and 24 inches and they typically weigh between 30 and 70 pounds, making them larger than many other breeds. Despite their large size, Aussiedoodles are often energetic and agile, indicative of their mixed heritage. Therefore, Aussiedoodles are usually good family pets, particularly if given the right amount of training and exercise. Despite their size, Aussiedoodles tend to require relatively little grooming.
Aussiedoodles are known for being active and playful little bundles of energy. As a cross between the Australian Shepherd and Poodle, they have the energetic and spirited nature of the Australian Shepherd combined with the athleticism and agility of a Poodle. Their graceful movements, expressive eyes, and considerable intelligence can make them wonderful companions for individuals or families who have the time and resources to provide plenty of physical and mental stimulation.
Aussiedoodles are great for first-time owners, as they are loyal and easy to train. They come in a variety of sizes and have the charm of an Australian Shepherd and the intelligence of a Poodle. Aussiedoodles are also good for busy households due to their low exercise needs and generally low-maintenance lifestyle. Because they are often eager to please, training is easy and rewarding. They need regular grooming to keep their coat looking good, but this is nothing that a first-time owner can't handle.
The amount of training required for Aussiedoodles will depend on the individual Dood, as they can have different levels of energy. Generally, it's a good idea to set aside at least 30 minutes per day for training your Aussiedoodle—you can start with basic obedience commands that they should know as part of their normal routine. Conducting short sessions throughout the day is also beneficial, as this can maintain their focus and capacity to learn. Taking daily walks for an additional 20 minutes is also beneficial to ensure your Dood gets enough physical and mental exercise.
