Questions & Answers
An Aussiedoodle is a popular designer breed often referred to as a “designer mutt”. These dogs are a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, and they are known for their playful and loyal temperaments. They're intelligent, easy to train, and generally friendly with both humans and other animals. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, and range in size from the smaller Mini Aussiedoodles to the larger Standard sizes.
Aussiedoodles generally have a low-shedding coat, making them a great hypoallergenic choice for people who commonly suffer from allergies. While they will still shed minimally, their coat is much more manageable than that of a traditional Australian Shepherd or Poodle. This breed is made up of two breeds which are both known for being non-shedding and their combination creates the Aussiedoodle with a low-shedding coat that requires less brushing and grooming, therefore resulting in less shedding.
Aussiedoodles, like other dog breeds, should not be fed human food. Certain human foods contain too much salt or sugar, making them hazardous to your pet's health. Foods such as onion and garlic, as well as grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, and chocolate, can lead to severe digestive issues and should be avoided. Xylitol, an artificial sweetener found in sugar-free foods, can lead to liver failure in dogs as well as health complications like seizures.
Aussiedoodles are intelligent and loyal companions and, like all dogs, require attention, nutritional needs, and exercise to stay happy and healthy. They can adjust to a variety of environments, although some may need more specific care. Aussiedoodles require regular grooming due to their high-maintenance coat, which should be trimmed at least every 3 months, so they stay in top condition. They require plenty of exercise to help prevent excessive barking and destructive behaviors, sometimes up to 60 minutes a day.
Aussiedoodles vary in size depending on the type of Poodle (Standard, Mini, or Toy) that is used for the breeding, but generally they can be considered medium-sized dogs. Normally, an adult Aussiedoodle will not exceed 25 inches tall and weigh up to 55 pounds. Therefore, Aussiedoodles could be considered a medium to large breed depending on the specific breed variation. On average, they tend to stay below the size of a standard Australian Shepherd, making them smaller than many of the giant dog breeds out there.
Absolutely! Aussiedoodles are typically very active and energetic, so taking yours running can be a great way to give it some much needed exercise. Keep in mind, however, that your pup should always be leashed when running, as this will help keep your pet safe and help prevent it from getting into any potential trouble. Make sure to bring plenty of water along to keep your pup hydrated and consider bringing along some healthy treats as a reward for running, too.
Aussiedoodles can get along very well with other pets in the home. They are generally friendly and loving towards other animals and tend to socialize quickly in most situations. They do require some form of socialization as puppies in order to learn how to properly interact, but with proper training and guidance, they will get along very well with other pets. They are generally very curious creatures and like to explore their environment, so as long as they understand proper boundaries, they can become great friends with both other animals and people.
Training an Aussiedoodle can be easy depending on the individual pup and the level of commitment you're both willing to invest. Some dogs may be riskier to train due to genetics or age, while others have the easier time understanding commands. When you begin, take things slow and don't expect too much too soon. Be consistent and set expectations for your dog, then stay firm when it isn't met. By setting boundaries and providing positive reinforcement when your pup meets expectations, you'll be able to get your furry friend up to speed in no time.
