Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are considered a designer breed, as they are a cross between a Toy, Miniature, or Standard Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. They are known for their intelligence, loyalty, and lively personalities, as well as their wonderfully unique coats. These dogs range in size from 10 to 30 pounds. Depending on the poodle parent’s breed, they usually have a soft, curly or wavy coat that can range from red, black, chocolate, cream, or apricot in color.
Aussiedoodles are often referred to as a hypoallergenic breed because they tend to produce less dander than some other types of dogs. This means that they can be a good fit for people who suffer from allergies to pet dander. However, no breed of dog is truly hypoallergenic as some level of dander production is expected from any dog breed.
Aussiedoodles have specific nutritional needs that should be respected when it comes time to feed them. They are a crossbreed of a Poodle and an Australian Shepherd, and have high energy levels that require them to have a diet that is rich in lean proteins and complex carbohydrates. A balanced diet of high-quality kibble and wet food is ideal, with occasional additions of fresh proteins such as lean meats, eggs, and well-cooked vegetables.
Aussiedoodle have a few things to keep in mind when it comes to their care. They should receive regular grooming, like brushing and combing, to keep their coats healthy and reduce tangles. Their exercise needs are also important and they should be taken on daily walks and participate in some kind of physical activity. They also thrive with an adequate amount of mental stimulation as their intelligence requires them to be challenged and stimulated. Proper socialization also important for Aussiedoodles to interact with other animals and people properly.
Aussiedoodles come in a variety of sizes, depending on the breeder and the mix of the parent breeds. Typically, these sizes range from Toy, which is the smallest size typically weighing 8-15 pounds, to Extra Large with weights up to 50 pounds. The Miniature Aussiedoodle may weigh between 15-30 pounds, Standard is likely to range from 30-50 pounds. However, because the breed can vary in size, it's important to look closely at the parents of the litter to get an accurate understanding of the potential weight range.
Aussiedoodles are highly active and energetic dogs that need plenty of exercise to stay healthy and happy. At minimum, an Aussiedoodle should receive about an hour of exercise daily. This can include a combination of on-leash and off-leash activities such as walks, runs, hikes, playing fetch, and swimming. If possible, increase the amount of exercise provided to two hours per day; this allows the Aussiedoodle to get out all of their energy.
Aussiedoodle's can make for a great match for first-time pet owners. This companion breed is often easily trainable and known to love human interaction. Owners appreciate their activity level and friendly nature which promotes bonding and relationships. Aboriginal dogs, popular among the Australian and New Zealand community, have a proclivity to enjoy activities such as water play and agility training and excel in sports like obedience and flock work. For first-time pet owners, Aussiedoodles are a great choice thanks to their corral, effortless grooming and low shedding coats, loyalty, and friendly demeanor.
Aussiedoodles require daily training to be at their best. As no two dogs are the same, the amount of minutes required for training each day varies. However, in general, we recommend devoting an hour a day divided into shorter sessions throughout the day to training, as this will help the dog retain knowledge and stay focused. For puppies, short five-minute sessions a few times a day will allow them to stay engaged with positive reinforcement. As your pup progresses and matures, more time can be spent in structured training sessions.
