Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles, also known as the Aussie-Poo, are a designer breed that is both intelligent and loves children. A cross between the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle, they are hybrid dogs with a combination of the cheerful, loving personality of the Australian Shepherd combined with the intelligence and extremely low-shedding coat of the Poodle. Aussiedoodles come in a variety of sizes, ranging from small to large, depending on whether they are a combination of Toy or Mini Poodle and Australian Shepherd.
Aussiedoodles are considered a “low-shedding” breed, but it is important to remember that all dogs shed some fur. The Aussiedoodle has an average shedding amount, but overall it’s much less than other breeds. The Aussiedoodle’s coat is always hypoallergenic, and the coat of the dog tends to be low-maintenance.
Aussiedoodles may have particular dietary needs depending on their individual needs. The best way to ensure proper nutrition is to speak to a veterinarian or animal nutritionist regarding specific dietary requirements. It is not uncommon for Aussiedoodles to require tailored nutrition based on their age, activity level and size. Aussiedoodles should have quality ingredients and a balanced diet. It is also important to ensure the dog has access to clean water and that the food meets all of their nutritional needs.
Before getting an Aussiedoodle, you should buy a soft bed or crate for your canine companion, a few sturdy toys designed to withstand tough play, food and water dishes, a leash and collar, all-natural dog food, grooming supplies, and a brush. Additionally, you'll want to visit your local veterinarian and get all of the vaccinations and monthly preventive prescriptions taken care of. It's also a good idea to look into a microchip for your Aussiedoodle, so that they can be easily identified and reunited with you if ever lost or stolen.
Aussiedoodles vary in size, depending on the parentage of the pup. Typically, the full-grown size range for an Aussiedoodle is anywhere from 10 to 24 inches in height and from 15 to 70 pounds in weight. Males tend to be larger than females, and will grow to around 26 inches in height and 70 pounds in weight on average, while females will be around 20 inches tall and 55 pounds in weight. Therefore, Aussiedoodles come in a varied range of sizes, so it can be hard to predict until they've reached maturity.
The amount of exercise required to keep your Aussiedoodle healthy will depend upon their age, size, and activity level. Generally speaking, most Aussiedoodles will benefit from a daily walk lasting at least 30 minutes, in addition to playtime. Younger dogs that are still growing should receive extra exercise, so it is suggested that 45-60 minutes a day is best for their development. If your Aussiedoodle is predominantly a house pet, aim for a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise per day.
Aussiedoodles can be a great choice for first-time owners. They are considered to be intelligent, gentle, loyal, and affectionate dogs, which makes them excellent canine companions. They are also low-shedding and require minimal grooming, making them an ideal pet for those who don't want to deal with the time and effort needed to care for a more high-maintenance breed. Additionally, Aussiedoodles are easily trainable and have a laid back attitude, so they do well with pet parents who are new to the concept of dog ownership.
The amount of minutes required per day to train an Aussiedoodle will vary, depending on several factors, such as the age of the dog, the amount of experience they have, and their individual energy levels. As a general guide, though, an average of 10 to 20 minutes of training per day should be enough to keep an Aussiedoodle happily learning and engaged. It is important to keep in mind that any training session should include time for your Aussiedoodle to be rewarded with praise and treats when they are successful.
