Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are an intelligent, friendly, and energetic hybrid breed of dog created by crossing an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. Because of their intelligence, they’re easy to train given the right motivation and repetition. They can be adapted to various living situations like apartments and city life, but need plenty of exercise and daily stimulation. Aussiedoodles make great lifelong companions for people of all ages but can be too zealous for small children, often showing herding tendencies.
Aussiedoodles are non-shedding, making them a good choice for people looking for a dog with minimal shedding. These dogs produce less dander than other dog breeds and do not shed heavily. Although they do not shed as much as other breeds, they may require occasional brushing to remove dirt and debris from their coats. Additionally, some Aussiedoodles may need to be trimmed or clipped depending on the clipping pattern of their parent breeds. Overall, they are considered an excellent low to no shedding breed.
Aussiedoodles generally have the same dietary needs as any other type of designer dog and their diet should be based on size, age, activity level, and overall health. As with any dog, they should be fed a high-quality, nutrient-rich, commercial food plus any other supplements and treats. However, because of their hybrid nature, many Aussiedoodle owners choose to feed a raw diet, or at least supplement their commercial diet with fresh foods or supplements such as goat's milk and raw eggs.
Aussiedoodles may have some specific needs that set them apart from other breeds. They have a moderate energy level and require regular exercise, such as walks and playtime with their humans. They do not handle extreme temperatures well and should not be left outside too long in either hot or cold weather. As with any breed, they require regular brushing, trimming of their nails, and veterinary examinations and vaccinations. Aussiedoodles may also need to be taught basic commands, and may benefit from early socialization and obedience training.
Aussiedoodles can vary in size, so it is hard to categorize them as either “big” or “small” dogs without more detailed information. Generally, they are classified as medium-sized dogs, but some may end up being a bit bigger than average. If you are looking for a larger Aussiedoodle, it’s best to do your research on the parents of the puppy to get an idea of their potential size. You can also ask the breeder for information such as the height and weight of the parents.
The amount of exercise your Aussiedoodle needs will depend on their age, health, and weight; however, as a minimum, it is generally recommended to walk an Aussiedoodle for at least 20 minutes a day. To maintain your Aussiedoodle's overall health, it is best to keep exercise varied and to strive to reach a total of around 50 minutes per day to ensure your pup is staying active and healthy. Additionally, providing playtime like fetch or other activities is important to maintain your Aussiedoodle's mental health and to reduce boredom.
Aussiedoodles are a great breed for first-time owners because they are so lovable and easy to train. Not only are they affectionate and goofy, making them incredibly entertaining, but they are also intelligent, eager to please, and learn quickly. They also tend to be more accepting of different situations, people, and different types of training than some other breeds. Furthermore, they typically require much less grooming than other dogs, which is convenient for first-time owners who might not be familiar with how to properly groom their pet.
Training an Aussiedoodle requires patience, consistency, and a calm, confident attitude. Speak with your veterinarian or a behavior specialist for breed-specific advice. To get started, establish yourself as the pack leader and ensure that your dog recognizes you as such in order to develop a trusting relationship. Focus on positive reinforcement such as treats, praise, or playtime, rather than punishing bad behavior. Additionally, basic commands should be taught such as sit, stay, come, and leave it. You can also use clicker training to reward desired behaviors quickly and accurately.
