An Aussiedoodle is a highly intelligent, friendly and loyal cross breed of the Australian Shepherd and Poodle. This designer dog was created to combine the smart, obedient nature of the Australian Shepherd and the non-shedding coat of the Poodle. It is an energetic pup that loves to please, making it a great choice as a family pet, as it loves to play and be around people and other animals. Aussiedoodles are highly intelligent and can learn tricks and commands quickly, as well as respond to potty training.
Aussiedoodles can be a low-shedding breed, depending on their coat type. An Aussiedoodle's coat may be a mix of either a smooth Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, or a long-haired Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. If the Aussiedoodle has an Aussie parent with short fur, they may not shed much or at all. When bred with a Poodle parent, they tend to be lower-shedding because Poodles also have low-shedding coats.
Aussiedoodles should not be fed chocolate, grapes, raw/undercooked meats, anything with the artificial sweetener xylitol, onions or garlic, unbaked dough, macadamia nuts, or processed luncheon meats. Additionally, avoid feeding them fatty table scraps, as this can predispose them to pancreatitis, and other human snacks such as potato chips and popcorn, as these can lead to choking and intestinal blockages. Aussiedoodles will do best on a nutritionally balanced, high-quality dog food.
Aussiedoodle dogs tend to have some unique needs in order to maintain their health and wellbeing. Grooming is especially important for this breed; because of the combination of long, thick fur and double coat, they need to be brushed regularly to ensure that mats are prevented and their coat remains healthy.
