Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, making them an incredibly intelligent and loyal breed. The Australian Shepherd side gives Aussiedoodles the drive and stamina to excel in sports such as agility and flyball. They make great family pups and work well in homes with children. Aussiedoodles require a fair amount of brushing and grooming to keep their coats in beautiful condition; however, they do shed very little. Additionally, they are known to be incredibly friendly and easy to train.
Aussiedoodles are a hybrid breed created by crossing an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. They typically have the fluffy and non-shedding characteristics of a Poodle and can therefore be classified as hypoallergenic. Even though they are considered to have a low shedding coat, Aussiedoodles can still cause some allergies for some people due to their dander. So, while they have hypoallergenic qualities, it's important to note that no breed is 100% hypoallergenic.
Aussiedoodles do have unique dietary needs. As they are a cross of an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, their ideal diet may differ from that of either of the two purebreds. For optimal health, an Aussiedoodle should be fed a balanced, nutritionally complete diet with supplementation of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Feeding high quality, grain-free dog food, as well as occasional table food, is also recommended to ensure that your Aussiedoodle is getting the nutrients they need.
Before taking in your new Aussiedoodle, it's important to do your research. Start by learning what type of food and exercise your new pup needs, and buy whatever supplies you will need in advance, like food and water bowls, a bed, and any toys. Familiarize yourself with the breed and its behaviors, like their energy level and potential shedding. Additionally, it's important to shop for any supplies you'll need to groom your pup, like a brush, shampoo, and nail trimmer.
Aussiedoodles typically range from 18 to 26 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 25 to 45 pounds, so they can differ in size depending on the bloodline. Generally, they are considered a mid-sized breed and may be too large for anyone looking for a small dog. However, if you are looking for a pup you can lift and carry with ease, a mini Aussiedoodle could be an excellent choice as a smaller companion.
The most important thing to consider when determining how many minutes per day to walk an Aussiedoodle is their age, size, and activity level. Generally, puppies up to six months old should be walked for around 5-10 minutes, twice a day. For adults, typically 45-60 minutes per day is ideal. Of course, the amount of time spent walking will need to be adjusted based on the individual Aussiedoodle and their activity level. Circumstances such as intense weather may also impact the duration and intensity of the walks.
Aussiedoodles typically have wonderful temperaments that are well-suited for family living. They are generally very playful and affectionate, and love spending time with their families, especially kids. Their intelligence also makes them incredibly trainable, thus making them excellent pets for children and families. Aussiedoodles naturally form strong bonds with children and enjoy playing and interacting with them. With proper early socialization and training, Aussiedoodles can easily become great companions for families with children.
Training your Aussiedoodle can be a rewarding experience, however it requires patience and persistence due to the breed's strong-willed and intelligent nature. To begin, the best advice is to invest in a good quality training program like puppy kindergarten classes and/or one-on-one training lessons with a professional dog trainer. You should also start basic training for your puppy as soon as you bring them home, including teaching them good behaviors like sitting, staying, and coming when called.
