Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a fun and faithful breed of dog with an adorable teddy-bear-like appearance. They're friendly and intelligent, making them a great companion pet. Aussiedoodles can live up to 15 years, have an average weight of 20-60 pounds, and can come in a variety of colors. Their hypoallergenic coat makes them preferred by some people with mild allergies. Aussiedoodles exercise enthusiastically and enjoy being around people but are equally content relaxing at home. They're learn commands quickly so obedience training should come easy.
Managing allergies with Aussiedoodles can be a challenging yet rewarding experience. Even though these dogs are considered hypoallergenic, their coat can still contain allergens, so it's important to be mindful of allergens and how they are brought into the house. To minimize exposure to allergens, consider wiping their feet off when they come in from the outdoors, as well as brushing their coat regularly and limiting the amount of time spent around them.
Aussiedoodles should not be fed too many treats as they can lead to obesity. Additionally, anything that contains artificial sweeteners, artificial colors, preservatives, and large amounts of sugar should be avoided. Meat should be cooked and any bones should be removed as they can cause choking or bowel obstructions. Uncooked eggs should also be avoided as they can contain salmonella and other bacteria. You should also avoid giving your Aussiedoodle things like chocolate, grapes, raisins, garlic, onions, and macadamia nuts as they can cause toxicity.
Preparing your home for a new Aussiedoodle can be an exciting but involved process. Before welcoming your pup, start by puppy-proofing your home. Take the time to remove any dangerous items that can pose a risk to your pup, such as electrical cords, chemicals, or certain houseplants. Get some sturdy chew toys, and items that can withstand lots of attention, such as durable beds and toys. Place a baby gate at the bottom of any stair cases as this is a common safety precaution for new puppies.
Aussiedoodles typically come in a range of sizes from miniature (flies off the scale at 10-14″ tall and 10-20 lbs) to standard size (generally around 18-23″ tall and 40-65 lbs). However, the size of the Aussiedoodle can depend on the size of their parents, so you might find some that deviate from these measurements. The Miniature Aussiedoodle, or Mini Aussie-Poo, typically results from breeding a Mini Australian Shepherd and a Mini Poodle.
Absolutely! Aussiedoodles have a lot of energy, so they can certainly benefit from the exercise that regular running provides. If your Aussiedoodle is a puppy, it may benefit more from short runs initially because their bones and muscles aren't quite as well-developed as those of an adult. Just be sure to slowly increase its running time, letting it rest between jogs. Additionally, be sure to watch the temperature and humidity levels and not expose your Aussiedoodle to extreme conditions.
Aussiedoodles can generally get along well with other pets; however, it really depends on a case by case basis. While many owners report having success with multiple pets in the same home, socializing an Aussiedoodle to other animals should always be supervised. Positive reinforcement and proper training are important for introducing an Aussiedoodle to other cats, dogs, or other pets.
Aussiedoodles are oftentimes considered to be intelligent and highly trainable canines. Studies show that they possess a great capacity for learning and are often ranked at the top of the breed intelligence scale. This is likely due to their hybrid natures, which often result in combining the positive traits and attributes of both parent breeds. Aussiedoodles, then, are especially adept at picking up commands and cues from their humans with some of them even learning complex tasks.
