Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are known for their playful personalities and intelligence; they are a cross between an Australian Shepherd and Poodle, making for an incredibly loyal and affectionate canine companion. They are typically good with families, and children can benefit tremendously from their companionship. This breed has a moderate energy level, which makes them great for a variety of activities, from hiking to playing fetch in the backyard. Aussiedoodles are usually easy to train and can even learn commands and tricks quickly.
Aussiedoodles, like any other pet breed, may cause a person to develop allergies. However, it really depends on the individual and their sensitivities. Generally, Aussiedoodles are considered to be hypoallergenic because their coats are non-shedding, low-dander, and wavy in texture. This means that the allergens which cause an allergic reaction are trapped in the coat and not released into the air to be breathed in by people with sensitivities.
Aussiedoodles have healthy nutritional needs that vary depending on their size and activity level. Generally speaking, Aussiedoodles should be fed a high quality, grain-free kibble specially formulated for large breeds. Whole meat sources like fish, beef, and pork, along with fruit and vegetable sources provide the necessary nutrients for optimal growth. To complement these dry foods, Aussiedoodles may enjoy cooked meats and bones, raw eggs, cheese, yogurt, and other fats and oils. Natural supplements like fish oil, pumpkin, and eggs are also beneficial for their diet.
Preparation is key to ensuring an enjoyable experience with a new Aussiedoodle. Before the pup arrives, gather supplies such as food, bedding, collars, leashes, chew toys, and a pet carrier. Research the breed and be sure to establish a daily routine for the pup including proper meal times and potty breaks. Set-up a safe secure area such as a dog crate for the pup when it is unsupervised. Make sure your home is puppy-proofed, removing any potential hazards.
The Aussiedoodle is considered to be a medium-sized dog. They typically weigh between 20-50 pounds and stand an average of 17-20 inches at the shoulder. The Aussiedoodle can actually come in a more petite size too—these are sometimes called Teacup Aussiedoodles, Tiny Aussiedoodles, or Toy Aussiedoodles—with weights between 10 and 15 pounds and a shoulder height of about 12 to 15 inches.
It depends on your Aussiedoodle's level of exercise, age, and health. However, a good rule of thumb is to aim for at least 30 minutes of walking your Aussiedoodle per day. It's important to adjust your walking time according to your pup's needs. If your Aussiedoodle is healthy and energetic, you may want to increase the amount of time that you walk your pup to about an hour a day, or even two. Taking your Aussiedoodle on different types of walks, such as jogging or bike riding, can also be beneficial.
Aussiedoodles are generally known for having gentle and affectionate dispositions, making them excellent family companions for households with children. They are active and attentive dogs, and they tend to view young people as members of the family and as playmates. Their patience and sociable nature make them a great fit for kids. Aussiedoodles also understand when playing becomes too rough and they will usually back away from the situation. Even though they are friendly and accommodating, they will still protect their family, including children if needed.
Training an Aussiedoodle requires both patience and consistency. It is important to start obedience training as early as possible, to ensure that your dog develops good habits. A good introduction to obedience should include basic commands such as 'sit', 'stay', and 'come'. Set up a routine and stick to it so that your pup can get used to the expectations. It is also important to reward your Aussiedoodle when it completes commands successfully. Through positive reinforcement and repetition, they will soon understand what is expected of them.
