Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a smart, loyal, and family-oriented breed of dogs. They are a hybrid breed that result from the crossing of an Australian Shepherd and a Standard Poodle. Aussiedoodles are often referred to as Designer Dogs since they are a mix of two different breeds. They have a thick and wavy coat of fluffy fur that is curly and shed resistant. They also come in many colors such as Aussiedoodle blue merle, La-luna, and dapple.
Aussiedoodles are generally considered to be hypoallergenic, meaning they are less likely to trigger allergic reactions. However, no dog breed is 100% hypoallergenic. Aussiedoodles can still produce dander, fur, and saliva which can contain allergens which may be a problem for some people with allergies. If you suffer from severe allergies, it's best to consult your doctor to assess if an Aussiedoodle is right for you.
Aussiedoodle dogs are omnivores, meaning they enjoy a nutritional balance of both meat and plant-based foods. A commercially manufactured, high-quality dog food specifically formulated for their breed is typically recommended. This food should contain all of the necessary vitamins, minerals, and other nutrition to sustain a healthy, energetic life. For some added variety, you may want to supplement their diet with healthy meats like chicken, turkey, whole fatty fish, and lean cuts of beef. Aussiedoodles also enjoy snacks like cooked veggies, boiled eggs, and low-sodium canned meats.
Before getting an Aussiedoodle, your shopping list should include essential items such as a dog bed, food and water bowls, dog shampoo, a comb and brush, a collar, a leash, puppy food, chew toys, treats, and a crate to house-train your pup. You should also get an ID tag and book an appointment with your veterinarian. Plan to have a fenced area for them to play outdoors, and consider doggy day care if you plan to be gone long hours each day.
Aussiedoodles, a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, vary in size as adults, typically ranging from small to medium in size. The exact size of your Aussiedoodle puppy depends on the size of the parents, as well as the ratio used for its breeding. You can expect the puppy to reach its full adult size anywhere from 8 to 24 months, depending on its breed.
Absolutely! Bringing your Aussiedoodle running can be a great way to keep them physically and mentally stimulated. When taking them out on a run, make sure you start with shorter distances and shorter running times, then gradually increase those distances and times as your pup builds up their endurance. Make sure your Aussiedoodle is wearing a well-fitted harness and collar, and is properly socialized during your running sessions. Additionally, keep them leashed until you are certain it’s safe for them to be off their leash.
Aussiedoodles can make great pets for first-time owners. Before jumping in, you should consider your lifestyle—these adorable pups are very energetic and need plenty of exercise and training. They also thrive on human companionship so if you are often away from home they may not be the best fit for you. An Aussiepoo is very intelligent and a quick learner which makes training easier. They have a natural herding instinct but that may manifest more with other animals and might be tricky to manage for an inexperienced owner.
Training an Aussiedoodle requires patience, dedication, and consistency. It's important to start with the basics and work your way up. Training basics include walking on leash, recall, and acceptable behaviors in familiar environments. As your puppy grows, introduce commands such as ‘sit’, ‘stay’, and ‘down’. Use treats and games to positively reinforce good behavior and to divert attention from unwanted behavior. Be sure to mix up your reward system to keep your pup motivated. Additionally, learn to recognize your dog's body language and respond appropriately.
