Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a hybrid designer breed of puppy, so they get the best of both worlds as they combine the intelligence and athleticism of the Australian Shepherd with the playful and social nature of a Standard Poodle. They are considered to be low-shedding and hypoallergenic, making them a great choice for owners with allergies. Not only that, they are also extremely loyal and intelligent, and they have excellent personalities. They have high energy levels, so they need a lot of activity throughout the day.
The Aussiedoodle coat is a truly wonderful combination of the Australian Shepherd and Poodle. The breed offers a variety of coat types and colors, with wavy, curly, or straight coats of black, cream, brown, grey, and golden hues. The texture is often described as feeling like velvet and has little to no shedding, making it an ideal option for those with allergies. An Aussiedoodle's coat can range in length, from shorter clip styles to longer tousled looks, so owners can choose to tailor it to match their lifestyle.
Aussiedoodles eat a variety of food depending on age, size, and activity level. They can be fed either dry or wet dog kibble. For puppies, it's recommended that they are given 3 to 4 small meals per day in order to support their rapidly growing bodies. Additionally, it's advisable to contain a balanced blend of proteins, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. When fully grown, the amount of kibble should be determined by the dog's weight.
The best way to prepare for your new Aussiedoodle is to do your research. Make sure you understand how active they are, what their dietary needs are, and their grooming requirements. It's also important to begin creating boundaries and rules for the new addition and investing in necessary items such as a bed, food bowls, toys, and leash. You should also talk to your vet about the vaccinations your pup might need and look into pet insurance and microchipping.
Aussiedoodles can be considered small dogs depending on the size of their parents. Generally, the size of an adult Aussiedoodle can range between 14-25 inches in height and 10-50 pounds in weight. On the smaller side of this range, Aussiedoodles may be considered small dogs. Furthermore, the smaller Aussiedoodles may not require as much exercise or have higher energy levels as the larger breeds.
Absolutely! Aussiedoodles are an active breed, so start slow and build up your running routine, and your Aussiedoodle will be able to accompany you on many of your runs. Start with short distances and when your pup is comfortable trotting along, increase the distance and the speed. Aussiedoodles are very social and they will love to be with you during your runs. Before starting your running routine, make sure to double-check with your vet that your pup is healthy and fit enough for running.
Aussiedoodles are incredibly loving, intelligent, and gentle dogs that get along since with people, which includes children. They are known for being quite patient and sociable, so they are able to be a great playmate for children. Their instinct for herding will sometimes kick in when playing with kids, but it is generally a loving and caring behavior rather than aggressive. With proper training, Aussiedoodles are quite capable of being good companions and even protectors of the children in the family.
Training an Aussiedoodle requires patience and consistency. Start by establishing dominance as the pack leader. Aussiedoodles respond best to positive reinforcement, so by providing praise for desirable behaviors, the dog will learn faster. Move on to basic commands like “sit”, “stay” and “come”. If the dog does not obey the given command, offer gentle corrections and stay consistent with commands and rewards. Always keep training sessions short and fun.
