Questions & Answers
An Aussiedoodle is a wonderful and unique hybrid breed of dog. It is created by crossing an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. This incredibly loyal and intelligent hybrid breed is a fairly recent. They are suitable for a variety of households, as they require enough exercise to stay fit and healthy. Aussiedoodle’s tend to be great family pets as they love the company of people, especially children. They also tend to get along with other breeds of dog and most cats. Aussiedoodles enjoy participating in activities like agility and herding.
Aussiedoodles can be considered hypoallergenic, as they are a cross between the Australian Shepherd and Poodle, both of which have non-shedding coats. The Poodle's curly hair coupled with the Australian Shepherd's coat create a hypoallergenic breed that does not shed, greatly reducing the amount of dander that can be found in the home. Additionally, because Aussiedoodles have coats that do not shed, there is less need to groom the coat, and consequently, less dander is released into the air.
Aussiedoodles, as with any other breed of dog, can eat either dry kibble or a combination of wet and dry food. This mix can vary depending on the age, size, and activity level of your Aussiedoodle. When feeding a dry food, be sure to choose one that lists high-quality proteins like chicken, salmon, or turkey as the primary ingredient and that is tailored to the size and age of your dog. Additionally, wet food can be used to mix in with the dry food to increase the mix's nutritional value.
Before you get an Aussiedoodle, it's important to get the essentials, such as a good quality dog bed, food and water bowls, toys, grooming supplies, and a collar and leash. It's also important to talk to your veterinarian about purchasing a flea and tick preventative, as well as a dewormer. An Aussiedoodle should also have an ID tag and microchip in case he ever gets lost.
Aussiedoodles typically reach anywhere from 15-25 inches in height and can weigh anywhere between 15-70 pounds depending on their sex and which parent breeds they take after more. The size of an Aussiedoodle can vary greatly, but, on average, an adult Aussiedoodle will weigh between 30 and 45 pounds. In terms of temperament and personality, they have a mix of the intelligence of the Australian Shepherd and the loving nature of the Poodle, making them wonderful companions that can be easily trained.
Aussiedoodles require a reasonable amount of exercise to stay healthy and keep their minds stimulated. Generally, around 30 to 45 minutes of activity that includes a walk or light playtime will suffice. But, depending on the age, size, and energy level of your Aussiedoodle, this amount of exercise could vary from day-to-day. It’s important to monitor your dog for signs of over-exertion or unwillingness to move around and adjust the exercise times accordingly.
Aussiedoodles typically have a pleasant disposition and get along well with other animals, given they are properly socialized. With respect to other pets, Aussiedoodles respond nicely to them and often form strong bonds, dependant on how well the introduction process was conducted. Owners should ensure these interactions are pleasant experiences by supervising them at first and using consistent positive reinforcement. Through a socialization program, Aussiedoodles can learn to become friendly with almost all types of animals.
Training an Aussiedoodle is fairly straightforward, but there are a few key points to keep in mind. The most important thing is to establish your role as the leader of the pack early on. Use techniques such as crate training, positive reinforcement, and housebreaking to make your pup more secure and comfortable in his environment. Additionally, set aside time for regular exercise to maintain your pup's physical health and mental stimulation. Finally, never use negative reinforcement or aggression as a means of punishing bad behavior; instead, reward good behavior with treats or positive affirmations.
