Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are one of the most unique hybrid breeds you'll ever encounter. Since they are a mix of an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, they possess distinct characteristics from both parents. They're friendly, intelligent, and highly trainable making them great family pets. The most interesting thing about Aussiedoodles is their physical appearance. Since they can have a variety of coat types, their coloring and look can vary significantly from one Aussiedoodle to the next.
Aussiedoodles generally have low to moderate allergen levels, so it is unlikely that you will have an allergic reaction to them. While the Poodle has low allergen levels, the Australian Shepherd's coat can vary, so it's best to meet the puppy and take a few tests before committing to a purchase in order to get an idea of how much dander and allergen levels the detailed furry friend will produce once in your home. Ultimately, the primary allergen produced by a dog is the saliva, so any activity that exposes saliva (i.e.
Aussiedoodles should not be fed chocolate, grapes, garlic, onions, dairy, or anything with a lot of fat and sugar, as these foods are highly toxic and dangerous for Aussiedoodles. Also, while it may seem like a good idea, table scraps should not be given to Aussiedoodles as these can be high in unhealthy fats, sugars, salts, and other unhealthy substances. Additionally, processed and pre-packaged treats should be avoided, as they are often lacking in nutrition and high in unhealthy ingredients.
Before taking home an Aussiedoodle, it is important to purchase certain essentials that will make life easier and more enjoyable for both you and your furry new companion. These items include a collar and identification tags, a leash, several chew toys to keep them occupied when they are bored, a bed or crate, food and water bowls, and a brush or comb for their coat. It is also a good idea to purchase a dog treat pouch to store rewards for your pup’s good behavior, along with a dog shampoo, flea medication, and preferably an outdoor kennel.
The size of your Aussiedoodle puppy will depend on a variety of factors, including the size of their parents. As a hybrid breed, Aussiedoodles often exhibit characteristics from both the Australian Shepherd and Poodle parents. Depending on the size of the parents, the puppies can range anywhere from 9 to 22 inches in height and typically weigh somewhere between 15 to 65 pounds. Generally speaking, most Aussiedoodles fall into the medium to large size range, so it is likely your puppy will be of a reasonable size.
Aussiedoodles, being a mix of an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, have different exercise needs depending on the base traits of the parent breeds. Generally, Aussiedoodles need a good amount of daily physical activity, including long walks and active play sessions. They should have at least an hour of exercise each day; however, some may require even more. Depending on the Poodle parent breed, Aussiedoodles may enjoy swimming and retrieving games as well.
Aussiedoodles are an absolutely wonderful choice for any family looking for an obedient, loyal, and loving companion. They are highly intelligent and make excellent working dogs and watchdogs. With their friendly and outgoing personalities, Aussiedoodles fit right in with a wide variety of people and are devoted to their families. They are also well-suited to multiple kinds of living arrangements, such as apartments, houses, or anything in between. Since these breeds were developed for herding, they have an inherent desire to please their owners and will thrive with lots of mental and physical stimulation.
Training an Aussiedoodle is a commitment and requires patience, but can be quite rewarding. Each individual Aussiedoodle will have their own temperament and characteristics which may affect how easy it is to train them. It is generally recommended to start training an Aussiedoodle when they are young and to engage their natural energy and curiosity in the process. Consistency is essential, and it is important to provide positive reinforcement, such as treats, when they respond appropriately.
