Questions & Answers
Aussiedoodles are a mixed breed dog, resulting from a cross between the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle. Generally, they are loyal, family-oriented, and intelligent, making them an ideal companion. Aussiedoodles typically have a medium-length coat that comes in an array of colors and patterns, and are generally low-shedding and suitable for people with allergies. While they can come in all sizes, they generally range from miniature to medium in size.
Aussiedoodles, a hybrid between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle, are considered to be hypoallergenic due to their low-shedding coat. Although they may not be 100% hypoallergenic, their low-shedding and low-dander coats can help reduce or even eliminate allergic reactions in some individuals. Depending on which coat type your Aussiedoodle has, straight or wavy, they will need regular grooming and brushing.
Aussiedoodles should not be given any type of human food, such as chocolate, candy, chips, cookies, or other similar snacks. They should also not be fed foods like grapes, raisins, garlic, onions, chives, leeks, and mushrooms as these can be toxic to dogs. Fruits and vegetables should be in moderation and should only be served cooked. Additionally, raw meat, fish, or poultry should not be fed as these can contain bacteria and other parasites that can be harmful to the dog.
Becoming the best puppy parent for your Aussiedoodle takes time and dedication. It's important to research and understand the needs of the breed, which will help you create a loving home environment for your pup. Spend time bonding and interacting with your puppy, and give it structure and guidance. Establish yourself as pack leader by consistently enforcing rules, providing positive reinforcement, and mastering basic training and obedience commands. Additionally, feed your Aussiedoodle a balanced diet, exercise it regularly, and take it for regular check-ups with a veterinarian.
Aussiedoodles can vary in size as it is a hybrid breed. Generally, they reach 18-23 inches in height and can range from 20-70 pounds. Their size is determined by the size of the parents; if the parents are larger the offspring will also be larger. Some can be as small as 14 inches and 12 pounds, too. The variation in size makes Aussiedoodles suitable for a variety of living spaces — from small apartments to larger homes.
Aussiedoodles, like all other dog breeds, require regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. An average Aussiedoodle should get at least 60 minutes of moderate physical activity each day, spread out over several walks and playtime sessions. The type of exercise is important, as some activities may tire them out more than others. The breed loves to run and fetch, so activities such as jogging, playing catch, and going to a doggie park or beach can provide both physical and mental stimulation.
Generally, Aussiedoodles get along well with other animals in the home. With proper socialization and obedience training, they can become loyal, loving and playful companions to other family pets like cats and other dogs. That being said, it's important to introduce them to each other in a slow, controlled manner, under the supervision of an adult. Aussiedoodles will need plenty of time to learn boundaries and get comfortable with new pets, but with patience and consistency, they can form strong and lasting friendships with their new housemates.
Aussiedoodles respond best to positive reinforcement training, which involves praising good behavior, rewarding with treats or extra attention, and ignoring or redirecting inappropriate behavior. Start by getting your Aussiedoodle acquainted with basic commands such as sit, stay, heels, and down. Make sure to provide plenty of rewards for completing these activities correctly. Practice these commands often and patiently, as repetition is key to successful training. Additionally, playtime is a great way to train your Aussiedoodle. Take them on walks, carry out fun activities, and play fetch with them.
