Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a cross between Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles that are known for their super soft, fluffy coats and gentle personalities. Due to the hybrid nature of their breeding, Bernedoodles tend to be healthier than their purebred parents. They require moderate amounts of exercise and love to play and cuddle with their owners. Bernedoodles are also extremely intelligent, making them highly trainable with patience and consistency. Because their coats are non-shedding, they are good for people suffering from form of pet allergies.
Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. They are known for being a low-shedding breed of dog. While they won't be completely non-shedding, Bernedoodles do shed less than other dog breeds. Since they are a combination of two popular breeds, the amount of shedding will depend on which genes they inherit from each parent. Bernedoodles with a higher percentage of Poodle genes usually shed less.
To know what not to feed Bernedoodles, it's important to understand their nutritional needs and the dietary restrictions that come with a particular breed. To ensure that your Bernedoodle is getting the best nutrition possible, it's recommended to learn more about the breed and consult with a veterinarian for individual nutrition and dietary guidance. In general, Bernedoodles should not eat overly processed, sugary, or commercially prepared foods, as they may include ingredients which can be harmful to your pup.
Becoming the best puppy parent while waiting for your Bernedoodle requires more than just physical preparation; it also requires mental and emotional preparation. To ensure you are completely prepared for this special animal, research Bernedoodle care so that you are familiar with the specific requirements of their breed. Also, set yourself up for success by practicing crate training and house rules, such as no jumping on furniture, ahead of time. Make sure to devote proper time each day to exercise and socializing the puppy to help them develop healthy habits and build a strong bond.
Bernedoodles are not typically considered small dogs. The actual size of a Bernedoodle will depend on its parents and the average size range, taking into account both parents’ breeds, is anywhere between 15-29 inches in height and 25-49 pounds in weight. Generally, Bernedoodle puppies born from a Standard Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog will typically be larger than puppies from a Miniature Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog.
Absolutely! Bernedoodles are wonderfully active dogs that are well-suited to running. The key is to start slowly and increase the distance and pace of the runs gradually. You'll want to talk to your dog's veterinarian to make sure your pup is healthy and ready for the rigors of running. If they are, get them outfitted with a good-fitting collar and leash and hit the road. Keep in mind that some parts of the day can be hotter than others, so in the summer it's best to take your runs in the coolest part of the day.
Bernedoodles are known for being intelligent, friendly, and loyal dogs that tend to do very well with kids. They are a gentle, loving breed that is very protective of their family members, making them excellent family dogs. Additionally, Bernedoodles typically have an easy-going, patient, and tolerant disposition which makes them great companions for children. When interacting with kids, Bernedoodles are kind, caring, and aware of their own size and strength, making them ideal playmates and cuddle companions for kids of all ages!
It largely depends on the age, activity level, and specific needs of your Bernedoodle; however, generally speaking, a minimum of 30 minutes a day should be dedicated to providing physical exercise and mental stimulation. Depending on the individual, older adult Bernedoodles may need less exercise than their younger counterparts; however, it is recommended that all Bernedoodles receive daily exercise or physical activities to keep them fit and alert. To ensure your Bernedoodle stays healthy and alert, providing day-to-day activities and interactive play will help to keep them both mentally and physically stimulated.
