Questions & Answers
A Bernedoodle is a lovable, family-friendly hybrid of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Developed to combine the intelligence and trainability of the poodle with the loyalty and gentleness of the Bernese Mountain Dog, a Bernedoodle is an intelligent, easy to train, and highly social breed of dog. Generally affectionate and gentle, they are often moderate in energy levels and love to cuddle. In addition, their hypoallergenic fur and minimal shedding make them an excellent choice for allergy sufferers.
The Bernedoodle coat is an ideal combination of the coats of its parent breeds: the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. Generally speaking, these dogs have thick and curly coats that come in a variety of colors. The most common colors are black/white, brown/white, and silver/white. Some Bernedoodles have more of the Bernese Mountain Dog coat, which tends to be long and silky, while others may have more of the Poodle coat, which is curly and can range in length from short to long.
Bernedoodles typically require a diet specifically tailored to their breed, as these pups tend to be more susceptible to food allergies and sensitivities due to their hybrid nature. Generally, a high-quality, premium kibble or canned food is recommended, as they offer high-quality ingredients and balanced nutritional profiles that meet their needs for all life stages. As a Bernedoodle parent, make sure to provide them with a variety of meats, fish, and vegetables for healthy protein and fiber.
Bernedoodles do have special requirements due to their hybrid nature. In other words, the unique Bernedoodle has both a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle parent. To keep them happy and healthy, they will require different kinds of care than other breeds. This includes regular daily exercise in order to maintain mental and physical stimulation, as well as a diet that is tailored to their specific needs. Bernedoodles are also prone to separation anxiety, so care should be taken to ensure they are not put in situations where they might feel stressed or overwhelmed.
Bernedoodles come in a variety of sizes, ranging from miniature (up to 25 pounds) to standard (60-100 pounds). Most adult Bernedoodle sizes fall within the medium (30-45 pound) range. The size of your Bernedoodle will depend mainly on the size of the parent dogs. Mini Bernedoodles are the smallest, typically bred from Miniature Poodles and Bernedoodles, while Standard Bernedoodles can be bred from either Standard Poodles or a Miniature Poodle and a Bernedoodle.
Bernedoodles tend to enjoy swimming, as many love the water and being outdoors. The breed is actually quite adept in the water, with many Bernedoodle owners reporting that their pup is quite comfortable with swimming. As they are an active breed, Bernedoodles have plenty of energy and they relish any chance to release this energy by swimming. Additionally, this activity helps these dogs to tire out after plenty of running and exercising. This is an excellent way to give them some much-needed mental stimulation, which can prevent them from becoming bored.
Bernedoodles typically get along great with kids! These designer dogs, such as Bernedoodles, are highly social and make great family dogs. They are very loving towards children and typically love to play. Bernedoodles are known for being loyal and gentle, and often they want nothing more than to be given love and attention from their owners. When given a safe environment, Bernedoodles do well around children and make friends with them instantly. Additionally, these friendly dogs may even help teach children patience and responsibility.
Training Bernedoodles requires a commitment of daily time and dedication; the amount of time can be tailored depending on individual needs. Generally, a good starting goal is between 10-15 minutes of training per day. The more consistent the training program is, the more quickly your Bernedoodle will learn and retain new behaviors and commands. Additionally, since Bernedoodles require regular exercise to maintain their physical and mental well-being, this time can be used to engage in activities, such as taking walks, playing fetch, and agility exercises.
