Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed of dog created by crossing a Bernese mountain dog and a poodle. They are the perfect combination of loyal and smart! Originally bred for therapeutic use, Bernedoodles are often seen as companions for those with specialized needs. Not only are they gentle and intelligent, they are also hypoallergenic and low-shedding. If that wasn't amazing enough, Bernedoodles have a longer average lifespan than many other breeds, ranging from 10-15 years.
The Bernedoodle coat is unique in that it is a combination of the Bernese Mountain Dog's thick and silky coat and the Poodle's curly and non-shedding coat. The result can depend on the ratio of Poodle/Bernese parentage, but typically the coat is thick and wavy, usually with a teddy bear-ish appearance. On some Bernedoodles, the coat can tangle easily, so daily brushing is important for upkeep. Those with more Poodle in them may acquire a regular haircuts, though others may only require occasional grooming.
