Bernedoodles are one of the most unique dog breeds you'll ever come across! They are a hybrid of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, and while they look like regular, lovable pups, they are a bit more special. For starters, Bernedoodles are known for having amazing temperaments they are loyal, friendly and highly intelligent. Additionally, thanks to their mix of breeds, Bernedoodles are less prone to common health problems that purebred dogs can suffer from, making them very healthy and long-lived.
Bernedoodles should not cause more allergies than any other dog breed, but since they are a mix of Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles they may trigger the same allergens as those breeds. Everyone is different and people may have different allergy triggers, but typically the allergens from a Bernedoodle are the same as any other breed and come from the pet's dander, saliva, and urine. Before committing to any pet, it is best to make sure you are not allergic by either visiting a breeder or first testing your reaction from a friend's pet.
Bernedoodles generally require the same nutrition as other large breed dogs. Generally, a high-quality dry dog food that is specifically formulated for large breed puppies is recommended. Depending on the age, size, and activity level of the Bernedoodle, the recommended mainstream large breed adult formulas, active or more senior formulas, or a combination of both can be fed. A Bernedoodle should never eat more than 3 cups of food a day, split into two meals. People should be cautious of feeding fatty meats, table scraps, and unhealthy treats which can lead to obesity.
Before obtaining a Bernedoodle, it is important to have the necessary supplies to ensure a safe, comfortable and healthy home for your pup. This includes items such as a crate, food bowls, collar, leash, grooming supplies, toys, treats, potty training pads, and a bed. Also, if your Bernedoodle is still a puppy, a puppy training class is generally recommended, as is obedience training at a later age. You will want to make sure you have a safe and secure yard to play in and explore, so buying fencing and gates is important.
Bernedoodles are considered to be a medium to large breed of dog, depending on the combination of the Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle parents from which they originate. Generally speaking, adult Bernedoodles average between 25 and 29 inches in height and 50 to 65 pounds in weight, although these measurements can differ greatly from one canine to the next. Bernedoodles also have an impressive life expectancy of 12 – 15 years on average, meaning they are likely not a passing trend.
Walking your Bernedoodle every day is an important part of their overall care and wellbeing. The amount of time you spend walking them daily depends on the age and energy level of your Bernedoodle puppies and more energetic Bernedoodles will require longer walks and more physical activity than older or lower-energy Bernedoodles. An adult Bernedoodle should have at least two moderate walks per day totaling at least 30 minutes of walking each. If you have a more energetic Bernedoodle, you may want to increase those walk times to 45-60 minutes per day.

Generally, Bernedoodles benefit from about 30-45 minutes of active training and an additional 10-15 minutes of mental stimulation per day. Be sure to offer them physical and mental exercise that aligns with their energy level, and vary daily to keep their attention.
