Bernedoodles are a unique hybrid breed that emerges by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle of any size. Popularly known as a “designer breed”, Bernedoodles have been increasingly sought after in recent years for their loving dispositions and unique looks. Noted for their intelligence and trainability, Bernedoodles are also incredibly loyal and gentle companions that are known to form tight bonds with their owners. Furthermore, they tend to exhibit fewer of the genetic health issues that can plague their purebred counterparts.
Bernedoodles, a mix between Bernese mountain dogs and poodles, do not typically cause allergies in humans, as they are a breed of hypoallergenic dogs. However, some people may be more sensitive to certain breeds, as some people can experience reactions to any kind of pet. If you have a family history of allergies, it is always a good idea to take extra precautions and perhaps even consult with a doctor before welcoming a Bernedoodle into your home.
When caring for a Bernedoodle, providing them with the right nutrition is key to keeping them healthy. Depending on your Bernedoodle’s age, it’s recommended to feed them a high-quality, balanced diet. Puppies need a more calorie-concentrated diet than adult Bernedoodles. The brand of dog food that is right for your Bernedoodle will depend on their individual nutritional needs, however some brands that are often recommended are Hill's Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan, and Royal Canin.
Before getting a Bernedoodle, you should purchase food and water bowls, a collar, a harness, a leash, a bed, chew toys, and any other necessary grooming supplies such as shampoo, brushes, and nail clippers. It's also important to choose a food formula that is appropriate for a Bernedoodle. Long-haired Bernedoodles may require special brushes and combs to keep their coats maintained. You'll need to buy a few toys to keep your Bernedoodle entertained and exercised.
Bernedoodle sizes can vary greatly, depending on the particular bloodline and the parents of the pup. The amount of exercise depends on the age, size, and energy levels of the individual dog, and can include a combination of activities like walks, playing fetch in the park, or a game of tug-of-war in the backyard. As Bernedoodles are intelligent and active dogs, it's important to keep them mentally stimulated, too, with toys, obedience command training, and regular grooming sessions.
Bernedoodles can absolutely make wonderful family dogs. They have lots of cheerful energy and are very gentle and friendly. They will provide hours of affection, loyalty, and companionship that will appeal to adults and kids alike. Bernedoodles also tend to be intelligent and eager to learn. With the right training they are very easy to handle and trustworthy with children. Plus, because of their sweet, laid-back temperaments, Bernedoodles rarely bark unless there is a valid reason.
The amount of minutes you need to train a Bernedoodle each day will depend on the age and ability of your cheery canine companion. You should typically work with your Bernedoodle for at least 15-20 minutes a day to ensure they are getting the necessary attention and learning needed to be an obedient pup. This can be broken into multiple training sessions throughout the day or, for a more experienced pup, you might be able to get by with a longer 30-minute training session.
