Questions & Answers
A Bernedoodle is a hybrid crossbreed between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, usually a standard Poodle. It is also often referred to as a Bernese Mountain Poo. While there is no official Bernedoodle breed, these dogs typically have soft, silky, hypoallergenic coats that range in color from a deep black to a grey and white, and some may even resemble the classic tricolor of their Bernese Mountain Dog ancestor.
The Bernedoodle has a unique coat that can vary in length and texture. It's generally a medium-length wooly, soft coat that's made up of wavy, curly and/or straight hair with a shaggy look. This makes them low to non-shedding, although some Bernedoodles may have coats that need frequent brushing and occasional clipping for maintenance. Bernedoodles do require regular grooming to keep their fur looking healthy and beautiful. Regular brushing will also help to maintain their coats softness and prevent matting.
Bernedoodles are generally healthy and do not require any special dietary needs. They have a strong appetite and owners should monitor their food intake to ensure they are not overeating. Good quality dog food is recommended with the right balance of proteins, carbohydrates and vitamins and minerals. A Bernedoodle should be fed two meals per day of the same recommended dog food. Treats and table scraps should be avoided and variety in their diet should be avoided too.
One of the best ways to ensure you become the best puppy parent while waiting for your Bernedoodle is to do research in advance. Learn as much as possible about the breed and its needs in terms of food, exercise, and care. Explore various training methods so you'll be prepared to handle common puppy behavior issues. Additionally, find out what other pet supplies you will need before bringing your Bernedoodle home. Lastly, consider attending puppy classes at your local shelter or pet store. This will help you stay up-to-date on puppy care and will also help socialize your new dog.
Bernedoodles can be considered small dogs. Typically, the size of a Bernedoodle falls under four different categories toy, miniature, medium, and standard. Each of these categories have their own size scale. For example, a toy Bernedoodle, the smallest category, ranges from 7-14 pounds, making it the ideal size for those who want a smaller companion. In contrast, a standard Bernedoodle, the largest category, can range from 45-90 pounds.
Bernedoodles are moderately active dogs, with an energy level that is slightly lower than that of a purebred Bernese Mountain Dog. They are immensely trainable, quick learners, often joining their humans on hikes or jogs while always keeping a watchful eye on the environment. With regular exercise and attention, Bernedoodles are known for their loving personalities and their devoted nature. They love to please their owners and show it through their lovable, playful natures.
Bernedoodles make excellent companions for first-time owners due to their gentle, loving, and family-oriented personalities. They are a cross between the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle, inheriting the best attributes of both breeds. Bernedoodles are eager to please and very smart, making them easy to train. As an intelligent and confident breed, they can sense the needs and feelings of their owners, making them incredibly loyal companions. Additionally, their hypoallergenic coats are low-shedders, making them ideal indoor dogs.
Training your Bernedoodle is a great way to strengthen the bond between you and your pup. It is important to start with basic obedience training and work your way up from there. The best way to do this is to use positive reinforcement techniques such as giving your Bernedoodle rewards and compliments when they do something correctly and avoiding punishment for incorrect behavior. Be patient with your dog, provide plenty of reward, and use consistent behavior when training. Set aside time each day dedicated only to training so that your pup knows that it is positive time spent together.
