Questions & Answers
One of the most interesting things about the Bernedoodle breed is the hybrid vigor that they exhibit. Their crossing two different purebreds a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle allows them to acquire the best of both worlds. They are known to have very friendly, outgoing personalities, are easy to train, and don't shed like many other breeds. Bernedoodles make excellent and loyal family pets that are hypoallergenic and well-suited for all ages.
The Bernedoodle coat is highly variable and dependent upon the Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle mix that make up the breed. Generally, Bernedoodles can either have a short, sleek coat, a wavy coat, or a shaggy, fluffy coat that can be any combination of black, brown, white, and tan colors; however, some Bernedoodles have such unique coats they can be hard to classify as wavy, short or long.
Bernedoodles typically have moderate-to-high energy levels, so nutritional requirements will vary. Their diet should reflect this since nutrition can determine the quality of life they have; Bernedoodles need to receive a balanced diet full of proteins, carbohydrates, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. They can struggle to receive these important nutrients from some commercial dry kibbles, so consult your veterinarian to find out what's best for your Bernedoodle and also if there are any dietary restrictions or special needs specific to your pup.
Preparing for a new Bernedoodle is an exciting process, but requires careful planning and consideration. First, you'll want to become familiar with the breed by researching their diet, exercise requirements, health concerns, and common behavioral characteristics. Secondly, you may wish to obtain essential items such as a crate, leash, toys, food dishes, and beds. Thirdly, you should consult with a veterinarian to discuss the puppy’s specific health and wellness needs.
Bernedoodles, variations of Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, can reach mature weights which range from 30 to 80 lbs, depending on the mix of breeds that went into the individual dog. Generally, they can reach mature heights of 18-27 inches. Bernedoodles are considered to be a medium-sized breed, but some may be overly large or overly small if you are seeking a certain size in a Bernedoodle. It all depends on the combination of their parent breeds and their individual genetics.
Bernedoodles are known for their active and energetic personalities, so they require a moderate amount of activity and exercise daily. These athletic, hybrid dogs do most of their learning and growing from an early age of 4-10 months, and as a result, need physical stimulus and mental exercise to stay sharp. Daily exercise can consist of short walks, moderate play, and interactive activities, such as playing fetch, tasks like agility or trick training, or just a romp in the yard.
Bernedoodles are a great choice for a family dog. They make devoted and loyal companions, and are highly intelligent and eager to please. Bernedoodles are known for their affectionate and playful nature, and their sweet, gentle temperaments. They thrive on the attention and love they receive from their owners, and bond easily with all members of the family. Bernedoodles love being with their owners and don't like being left alone for long periods of time.
The amount of training your Bernedoodle needs depends on their age, energy level and individual personality. Generally speaking, most experts recommend training your Bernedoodle for at least 30 minutes each day. This could include basic obedience training, walks or playtime activities. Every dog is different and may require varying lengths of time for training, so it's important to know what works best for your Bernedoodle. Training your Bernedoodle for more than 30 minutes daily can lead to improved behavior and fewer problem behaviors.
