Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are arguably the most interesting of all the designer dog breeds because of their unique heritage. They are crosses between the intelligent Standard Poodle and gentle Bernese Mountain Dog. This combination results in an exceptionally intelligent and charming pup with a lovable personality and great companionship skills. Bernedoodles have a very friendly and loyal demeanor, making them perfect for any family. Furthermore, these dogs are also hypoallergenic and low shedding, so those with allergies can also benefit from owning one.
The Bernedoodle coat is a unique combination of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle hair. The coat can vary from wiry to curly, soft to coarse, and even wavy, depending on the Bernedoodle's texture and genetics. Bernedoodles tend to have a low-shedding coat, which can make them a great pet for families with allergies. The coats come in a variety of colors, such as white, black, red, brindle, sable, gray, and even merle.
Bernedoodles are hybrid dogs created by crossing Standard Poodles with Bernese Mountain Dogs and, as a result, have unique dietary needs. Generally, a Bernedoodle will require a supervised diet of high-quality dog food that is formulated for large breeds. Your vet can provide guidance on the appropriate type of food and amount of food that the Bernedoodle can eat. Also, be sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines for feeding including monitoring the amount and frequency of feeding, ensuring the food is age and breed appropriate, and providing access to fresh, clean water at all times.
Before bringing your new Bernedoodle home, there are several steps you should take to prepare your house. First, be sure to puppy-proof your home. Cover exposed electrical outlets, secure cords, and block access to any hazardous areas. Also, make sure that all small items, such as toys, are put away and out of reach. Second, create a designated play space, such as a puppy-proofed room or a designated puppy area. Give your Bernedoodle their own bed, chew toys, and interactive toys.
Bernedoodles come in a variety of different sizes, depending on the breeding of the parent dogs. The small Bernedoodle sizes range from 10-20 lbs, which could include a micro Bernedoodle, toy Bernedoodle, or a mini Bernedoodle. The medium sizes range from 20-30lbs and can include an F1 mini Bernedoodle or F1 medium Bernedoodle. The large sizes range from 40-80lbs and may include an F1 standard Bernedoodle or F2 or F3 Bernedoodle.
The amount of walking for your Bernedoodle should be determined based on the activity level of your pup, their age, and their overall health. Generally, Bernedoodles need approximately 30 minutes of exercise a day, with 10-15 minutes of that done in short bursts of walking. Depending on your pup's energy levels, age, and health, their needs may require more or less exercise. It's important to consult your vet to determine the optimal amount of exercise for your specific Bernedoodle, as excessive walking can cause injury.
Bernedoodles are a fabulous choice for households with kids. They have a playful nature and a gentle demeanor, making them great for children of all ages. Despite their larger size, Bernedoodles tend to be very gentle and are comfortable around young children. Bernedoodles are also very intelligent, so they are fairly easy to train and are great with proper socialization. Studies have shown that Bernedoodles bond very closely with their human families, often becoming quite protective of the kids in their homes.
Training Bernedoodles typically requires at least 20 minutes per day. However, as they are an intelligent breed, some may need more time in some cases, up to an hour per day. Depending on the amount of time you are willing to devote to the process, many people opt for short, frequent sessions instead. In addition to physical activity, such as walking, running, and playing, time should also be devoted to mental stimulation, such as teaching them obedience commands and problem solving puzzles.
