Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed of dog that is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. The result of this combination of breeds is a unique, intelligent, and affectionate family pet. Bernedoodles come in a variety of sizes and coat types that tend to vary due to the influence of the Poodle in their ancestry. All Bernedoodles, however, are known for their loyal and devoted nature, as well as their moderate to low shedding coats.
Bernedoodles are classified as a hybrid breed, meaning they are a mix of two different purebreds. Though there is a chance that crossed breeds are less likely to induce allergies, Bernedoodles still carry the potential of causing individuals to experience allergic reactions. It's important to note that the level of hypoallergenic traits this breed may demonstrate varies considerably, so it's best to talk to a medical professional and/or breeder to ensure that a Bernedoodle is right for someone with allergies before making any purchase decisions.
Knowing what not to feed your Bernedoodle is an important part of being a responsible pet owner. Firstly, you should provide your Bernedoodle with a balanced diet that is age-appropriate and in line with their activity level. Avoid giving them large quantities of high-fat foods, as these can be detrimental to their health. In addition, avoid feeding the Bernedoodle with human food – as tempting as some may be! Sweets, pastries, chocolate, and even table scraps should all be avoided.
Preparing for a new Bernedoodle requires time and planning. The first step is to make sure you have the necessary supplies like food, a collar, leash, toys, bedding, and a crate. Next, you'll want to research the breed to make sure you understand their needs when it comes to exercise and care. If possible, set up a few vet visits prior to bringing your new pet home so they can get checked out and receive any vaccines that may be required.
Bernedoodles are considered to be a medium size breed of dog. Depending on the parent breeds, some Bernedoodles may be considered smaller than others. The standard Bernedoodles will range from 26-29 inches in height when fully grown, making them larger in the smaller scale of things. Miniature Bernedoodles are slightly closer to being considered a small breed as they can range from 14 to 18 inches in height and 20-30 pounds in weight when fully grown.
Generally, Bernedoodles should get around 60 minutes of exercise every day, divided between brief daily walks and more interactive activities such as playing fetch or running off-leash. If you can provide more than 60 minutes of activity, this should be encouraged as it can help keep your Bernedoodle healthy, fit and entertained. However, depending on your particular Bernedoodle's age, health status and activity level, this can vary. Always factor in your dog's individual needs and abilities when deciding how many minutes to spend walking them.
Bernedoodles make wonderful family companions, especially when it comes to kids. This hybrid breed is known for its intelligence, loyalty, and playfulness which make them an ideal pet for children as they quickly learn commands and enjoy interacting with them. Additionally, Bernedoodles usually have a gentle demeanor that can make them particularly great around children. Their coat is hypoallergenic, which makes them a good option for those with allergies.
It depends on how old your Bernedoodle is. Generally, younger dogs require more frequent and intense exercise than adult dogs do, so your puppy may need more than 30 minutes of activity a day. If your Bernedoodle is an adult, then 30 minutes a day should suffice, split up into smaller sessions of 10-15 minutes as needed. Depending on the temperament of your dog, the intensity of the activity also matters – a calm, easy walk may be all that’s needed on some days.
