Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a unique cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Standard Poodle. They are a hybrid breed developed to combine the best traits of each parent. Bernedoodles are incredibly intelligent, playful, loyal, and generally easy to train. Bernedoodles come in a range of sizes, depending on the size of the parent breeds, from small to extra large. They usually have wavy fur, making them relatively low-shedders.
Bernedoodles typically shed very little, making them a great choice for those who are looking for a low-shedding pup. While there is no guarantee that any particular breed will not shed, Bernedoodles generally produce minimal fur and dander throughout their life. This is because Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed, meaning they are created by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Both breeds are known to shed very little, and this is carried on to the Bernedoodle.
Bernedoodles typically need a diet that is high in fiber, and should include sources of protein such as lean meats, as well as carbohydrates and healthy fatty acids from sources such as fish oil. Additionally, Bernedoodles may need supplements such as glucosamine to support joint health. Due to their tendency to become overweight, it's important to feed these dogs a diet that is appropriate to their activity levels. Generally speaking, Bernedoodles do not have dietary restrictions that are any different from the general canine population.
Bernedoodles have the same healthcare needs as any other breed of dog but they do have additional care requirement that should be factored in. Bernedoodles are known to be a bit higher maintenance due to their longer coats, which need regular brushing and clipping. As with any doodle, their thick coat can be a bit tricky to groom. So it’s important to keep up with the regular grooming appointments to ensure their coat remains healthy and looking its best. In addition, Bernedoodles require regular exercise and mental stimulation to remain healthy.
Bernedoodles are considered a medium-sized dog, although the size of the pup ultimately depends on the size of its parent breeds. Generally speaking, Bernedoodles range from 20 to 90 pounds, and will typically be full-grown by the age of 12 to 18 months. The average height of a mature Bernedoodle is anywhere from 17 to 27 inches. Considering their size and energy levels, they fit best into homes with plenty of space for a pup to roam and run around.
Bernedoodles often take to the water naturally and can develop a deep love for swimming. They are highly intelligent and lively dogs who enjoy being active and participating in fun activities. Swimming is a great way for them to stay fit and get the exercise they need. Because they have a low-shedding coat, swimming is also a great way to keep them clean and maintain healthy skin and fur. Furthermore, Bernedoodles love the feeling of being in the water and playing with their owners and family members.
Bernedoodles are an excellent choice for first-time owners due to their relaxed demeanor, minimal exercise needs, and preference for being near their family. This breed is intelligent which makes them easy to train, they can be taught basic obedience, tricks, and commands. Bernedoodles also have a hypoallergenic coat, making them a great choice for those with pet allergies. They are known for their exceptional level of loyalty and can form strong bonds with their owners. Training Bernedoodles can vary depending on the individual dog’s personality and temperament. Generally speaking, it is recommended that Bernedoodle owners dedicate at least 15-30 minutes per day to training them in order to effectively socialize, train, and manage the dog’s behavior. Training should include activities that focus on teaching the Bernedoodle obedience commands, teaching them common etiquette, and introducing them to new sights, skin and experiences.
