Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a unique and interesting crossbreed of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. They are a loyal and affectionate dog, often referred to as "family dogs" due to their desire to be close to its people. Due to their "hybrid vigor" they tend to be healthier than other purebreds. They are also smart and can be easily trained and are able to learn commands very quickly. Bernedoodles can come in a variety of colors, including standard black & white or tri-color.
It is possible that Bernedoodles may cause allergies in some people, although it is impossible to predict for certain. The breed combines the characteristics of the Poodle and the Bernese Mountain Dog, creating a mix of hypoallergenic hair and dander, although the predominant breed traits, such as the Bernese Mountain Dog's heavier fur, may cause an allergic reaction in some individuals. If you have a history of pet allergies, it is recommended to do an allergy test before interacting with a Bernedoodle.
Bernedoodles are a mixed breed and they have different dietary needs and requirements than other breeds. It is important to do your research and ask your vet for advice. Avoid feeding them table scraps and make sure to use treats specifically designed for the Bernedoodle's digestion. In general, Bernedoodles should not eat ethylene glycol, chocolate, macadamia nuts, grapes, raisins, avocados, caffeine, onions, garlic, and dairy products. Also avoid rawhide, bones, and other fatty, processed or unhealthy treats and snacks.
To ensure that you are fully prepared for your new Bernedoodle, you should make sure that you buy all the essential items needed before welcoming the pup into your home. A few key items you will want to purchase include a comfortable dog bed, loving toys, a strong and secure leash, high-quality food and treats, a food and water bowl set, grooming supplies to maintain its fur, and a doggie first-aid kit.
Bernedoodles can vary significantly in size, depending on their parent breeds. Generally speaking, standard Bernedoodles will grow to between 23-29 inches (58-73 cm) and will weigh up to 70 pounds (31 kg). Miniature Bernedoodles will usually reach heights of around 18-22 inches (45-55 cm) and weigh up to 49 pounds (22 kg). As such, Bernedoodles range from small to large in size and can even differ quite a bit within each litter.
It depends on your Bernedoodle's energy and activity level, as well as your own, but as a general rule of thumb, a Bernedoodle should get at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. That can include anything from being taken for a walk to playing outdoors with other dogs to running around in the backyard whatever suits your furry friend. It's important to note that like any breed, Bernedoodles can build up too much energy if not given the opportunity to exercise.
Bernedoodles are a remarkably social breed of dog that is perfectly suited to life with a family with young children! Oftentimes the breed can be timid, so the presence of an active, loving family can really help a Bernedoodle reach its full potential. Being an intelligent breed, they learn quickly and are eager to please their owners, so training is relatively easy! Bernedoodles are very friendly and have plenty of energy, making them fun companions for children of all ages.
Training your Bernedoodle should be a fun and rewarding experience for both you and your pup. Start by deciding what types of behaviors you would like to encourage. Then, begin with basic obedience training. This may include commands such as 'sit', 'stay', and 'come' as well as potty training and crate training. Keep the sessions short, a few minutes at a time, to hold your pup's attention. Make sure to reward your pup with treats, praise, or a game when they have responded well.
