Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a designer breed known for their robustness, intelligence, and loyalty. They are a hybrid of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle, and come in two varieties – Standard and Miniature. Standard Bernedoodles are crossbred between a Standard Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog, making them a mediumto large-sized mix. Miniature Bernedoodles, however, are a cross between a Miniature Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog.
Bernedoodles do not cause allergies, but that does not necessarily mean that all people will be non-allergic to them. As with any breed of dog, individuals may still be affected by allergens from dog dander, saliva, and urine. It is important to note that Bernedoodles can also carry certain irritants in their fur, such as pollen, mold, and dust, which can trigger allergies. While Bernedoodles may not cause allergies, it is still possible to experience an allergic reaction from coming into contact with one.
Bernedoodles, while typically very healthy dogs, may have different dietary needs than other breeds, depending on size and age. In general, Bernedoodles should be fed high-quality dog food that is appropriate for their age, size, and activity level. As with all dogs, the exact requirements will vary depending on individual need and lifestyle. In addition to providing premium dog food, it is important to ensure there are enough essential vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients in the diet.
Becoming the best puppy parent before you get your Bernedoodle is about being prepared. Start by researching the breed and creating a plan for what you expect during the puppy's first few weeks with you. Set up their space with comfy bedding, toys, and games. Make sure you have healthy food, a grooming routine, and get a routine veterinarian check up. Make sure to research any potential health concerns for Bernedoodles. Additionally, you'll need to puppy-proof your home, and create rules and boundaries for your pup.
Bernedoodles come in an array of sizes, depending on the size of the parents. Generally, Bernedoodles range in size from tiny, toy-sized Bernedoodles that weigh around 10 pounds, to standard Bernedoodles that reach their full size at around 70 pounds. Other sizes like mini-Bernedoodles, which fall in between toy-sized and standard sized, are becoming increasingly popular as well. Bernedoodles can even come in what is known as 'giant' size, which can weigh up to 90 pounds.
Bernedoodles need a good amount of exercise to stay happy and healthy. All breeds of dogs require a certain level of activity, with Bernedoodles requiring more than the average level of exercise to expend their energy. Generally, Bernedoodles need at least an hour of physical exercise every day to keep up their fitness levels. This could include running, playing fetch, going on long walks, hikes, and even taking part in agility classes. Regular mental stimulation is also recommended, such as playing hide and seek or puzzle games.
Bernedoodles are an excellent family pet and are typically good with kids. They possess many of the same qualities as a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, both of which are known for being patient, loving, and eager to please. In addition, they tend to have a more even temper and less of an instinct to guard or territorial behavior than many full-blooded breeds. As with any dog, Bernedoodles benefit from consistent training and positive reinforcement to ensure that everyone gets along together.
Training your Bernedoodle starts with a good foundation of basic commands and manners. The best way to train your pup is to start with crate and potty training. Next, move on to obedience commands like sit, stay, down, and come. This should be done in a positive and consistent manner. Using rewards and punishments in moderation sets the tone so that your Bernedoodle will learn the proper behavior and respect you as an owner. Additionally, socializing your Bernedoodle is extremely important as they can be shy of unfamiliar individuals and animals.
