Questions & Answers
A Bernedoodle is a hybrid breed of dog created by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle. The Bernedoodle is a designer breed of dog that has grown increasingly popular due to its pleasing personality and unique looks. This breed is usually a good size, ranging in height from 15 30 inches, and in weight from 40 70 pounds. Bernedoodles tend to be intelligent, easy to train and loyal. They boast low-to-non-shedding coats that are soft and fluffy, making them a great choice for those who suffer from allergies.
Bernedoodles do not typically cause people to have any more allergies than any other type of breed. While it's possible that some people might be allergic to their Bernedoodle, there is no evidence that Bernedoodles will cause a higher rate of allergies in people than other breeds of dogs. It's important to remember that shedding, which can be a major factor for people with allergies, is greatly reduced in Bernedoodles due to the fact that they are a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, two of the least shedding breeds.
To ensure the health and wellbeing of your Bernedoodle, it's important to know what not to feed them. Generally, human food should be avoided, as it can cause allergies or digestive issues. Additionally, some human food items like chocolate, grapes, raisins, or onions, can be toxic for Bernedoodles. Fatty or salty foods are also not recommended, as they can cause digestive problems. Feeds that contain grains or low-grade animal fat, such as corn or soy, are not suitable for Bernedoodles.
Bernedoodles, as with any breed of dog, come with certain requirements to keep them healthy, happy, and safe. Bernedoodles have a hybrid nature, which means their requirements differ from any one breed. They have a reputation of being playful, gentle, and affectionate, so they need plenty of love, attention, and companionship. Bernedoodles may have high energy levels or be mellow, so exercise is important to help keep them fit and strengthen their bond with their owners.
Bernedoodles are actually classified as medium to large-sized dogs; however, due to their strong athletic physique and their double coat, they can appear much bigger than they actually are. These intelligent, loyal, and loving pups can generally reach heights between 24 and 28 inches at the shoulder, and can weigh anywhere from 24 to 90 pounds, depending on the combination of their parent breeds.
Bernedoodles generally enjoy swimming, although this can vary from individual to individual. Bernedoodles typically inherit the energy levels and trainability of their Poodle parents, both of which lend themselves to obedience and swimming. Bernedoodles who are exposed to swimming from a young age often take to it quite naturally and can be seen paddling confidently and happily in the water. Additionally, swimming is an effective way to exercise and can make a great bonding experience between a Bernedoodle and his or her human companion.
Bernedoodles are often said to be confident, loyal, and gentle, which makes them excellent family dogs. Not only will Bernedoodles likely have a good relationship with your kids, but they are usually intelligent and eager to please. They are also patient and dependable, helping them learn the basics of good dog training more quickly than other breeds. For even more reassurance of your Bernedoodle's temperament around kids, look for breeders who are able to provide extensive socialization training.
Training your Bernedoodle will be a rewarding and enjoyable experience as long as you remain patient and consistent. Start young as Bernedoodles are highly intelligent and retain information quickly. Because Bernedoodles are a combination of two working breeds, they may need more guidance than some other breeds to focus their natural talents in the right direction. Start by familiarizing your pup with basic commands like sit, stay and down. Once your Bernedoodle is comfortable with these simple commands, you can begin to teach more complex commands such as walking on a leash, recall, and crate training.
