Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are one of the most interesting designer dog breeds out there. Their unique blend of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle traits create quite an extraordinary hybrid. Not only are Bernedoodles incredibly cute due to their fluffy fur, but they are also highly trainable, loyal, and make excellent, patient family pets. In addition to that, Bernedoodles have fewer hereditary health problems than many pure-bred dogs and tend to live longer.
Bernedoodles can be considered hypoallergenic because they are non-shedding and have minimal dander, but this still depends on the Bernedoodle’s parents, as some breeds are more hypoallergenic than others. For example, if both parents are a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, then the Bernedoodle’s coat will have a higher likelihood of being hypoallergenic because of its low shed characteristics; this is because both parent breeds are relatively low shedding.
Bernedoodles typically have a healthy appetite and can thrive off of a variety of foods. It's generally advisable to feed them a high-quality kibble designed for dogs of their size and age. This should provide the right balance of macroand micronutrients to help them stay active and healthy. As carnivorous animals, they also need tasty sources of animal protein. This can come in the form of additional wet foods, such as canned food or small amounts of cooked meats. You can also give them some fresh vegetables like squash and carrots as occasional treats.
Before getting a Bernedoodle, consider gathering a few essentials for your puppy. Of course, you will need food and water bowls, an adjustable collar and a leash to make walks easier. Obtaining an appropriately-sized crate can also help to create a safe place for your puppy while you are away. You may also want to have grooming supplies such as a brush, comb and nail clippers. Additionally, contemplate having a few interactive toys in your pet's toy basket to keep them entertained; these toys should be made of durable materials that are not easily destroyed.
Bernedoodles are considered medium-large sized dogs, depending on their parentage. As hybrids of both Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles, Bernedoodles can range in size from about 25-50 pounds. Most Bernedoodles have a puppy-like look that will never fully mature, but because they come from large breeds, they tend to look larger than their average weight range. Some Bernedoodles may reach sizes greater than 50 pounds, but this is less common.
The amount of time you should walk your Bernedoodle depends on its age, activity level, size, and overall health. Generally speaking, a Bernedoodle should get 30-60 minutes of moderate exercise per day, broken down into shorter intervals. If your Bernedoodle is a puppy, or is a senior, you should first consult your veterinarian for advice on how much and how often to exercise your pup. If your Bernedoodle is an adult, try to provide at least two good walks per day.
Bernedoodles are a great canine companion for families. They are friendly, loyal, and highly intelligent, making them easy to train and quick to learn. They are excellent family dogs because they have an eagerness to please and a willingness to learn new tasks. They require stimulation and socialization to stay happy and healthy. Bernedoodles enjoy being part of the family and also love playing with children. It's advisable to socialize them with other animals before they enter the home so that they can adjust to their presence and become even better family members.
Training a Bernedoodle can be done in a few different ways! It is important to be consistent with training, use positive reinforcement, and make sure to keep it reward-based. Start with basic commands like sit and stay and reward your pup with a treat when they complete it correctly. It is helpful to repeat commands several times, while gradually making the behaviors harder and harder until your pup is able to complete the task effortlessly. For more complex tasks, break it down into smaller chunks and provide rewards along the way.
