Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are hybrid dogs that originate from crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. As such, they are considered part of the designer breed and usually retain the friendly, loyal and intelligent characteristics of both the parent breeds. Bernedoodles can come in various sizes depending on whether they are Standard, Mini, or Toy. Generally, they have a wavy coat which can come in a variety of colours, from black to white. Bernedoodles are very social dogs and are therefore well suited to homes where they can join family activities and get plenty of attention.
Bernedoodles are considered to be low to non-shedding, meaning that they will shed less than a traditional Bernese Mountain Dog. Unlike other breeds, the Bernedoodle will not typically have major shedding around the house. However, it's important to note that all dogs, regardless of breed, will still require some maintenance when it comes to brushing, bathing, and grooming. Regular brushing for Bernedoodles should keep shedding levels at a minimum, and it's recommended that they also receive professional clipping or grooming every 10–12 weeks to help keep their coat in check.
The Bernedoodle is a unique cross between the Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. This breed requires a diet that matches their needs, depending on their age and activity level. In general, a Bernedoodle should be fed a high-quality, balanced diet that is designed for large breed puppies. Depending on their age, puppies may require four to six meals per day, while adult monkeys may require two meals per day. It's important to make sure that food is not left out for extended periods of time as Bernedoodles are prone to overeating.
Before investing in a Bernedoodle, you should equip yourself with some essential items to give your pup the best care. Your Bernedoodle's basic needs are food, water, nutrition, health care, shelter, and training. The type of food can vary by breed, so check with your vet for recommended diets. You'll also need a large water dish, healthy treats, chew toys, leash/harness/collar, and brush for grooming. It helps to provide an indoor crate and/or kennel to make sure your pup has a comfortable place to rest.
Bernedoodles can vary in size because they are a crossbreed of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Generally, they are considered to be of moderate size, with most fully-grown Bernedoodles weighing anywhere from 35-90 pounds. The height of these dogs can also vary greatly, though they typically stand between 18-27 inches tall. That being said, depending on the mix of the two parent breeds, some individuals could potentially be above or below those sizes.
Absolutely! Bernedoodles have a lot of energy and thrive with exercise, making them the perfect companion for running. Make sure to start small and slowly increase your pace and distance as your pet gradually builds up its endurance. Whenever possible, choose a route that has a lot of shade so their sensitive skin and fur can be protected from the sun. Additionally, bring along plenty of water for you and your running buddy to stay hydrated. Finally, make sure to check them for any signs of injury and take regular rest breaks.
Bernedoodles are known to get along very well with kids, as they are affectionate and patient with both adults and children. This makes them an excellent choice for any family, especially those with smaller children. Bernedoodles are bred to have the best qualities of both a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, including intelligence and gentleness. They are known to be generally easy-going and have an even-tempered disposition that is ideal for families with kids. Bernedoodles enjoy playing and interacting with their owners, and are often very protective and loyal.
The amount of training time your Bernedoodle needs depends on a few factors, such as age and abilities. Generally speaking, an adult Bernedoodle should receive at least 15 minutes of training per day, while puppies can benefit from up to 30 minutes of training every day. Providing consistent and daily training sessions will help your Bernedoodle learn quickly, and can also help with mental and physical stimulation. Whether you are working on basic commands or training more advanced behaviors, making sure your Bernedoodle is getting enough daily training is key to successful outcomes!
