Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a hybrid breed of dog, created by intentional cross-breeding of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. The result is a low-shedding, loyal, and intelligent companion who is as fun-loving as it is good-looking. Though hybrid breeds like the Bernedoodle can vary a lot from one another, they generally make good family pets and can quickly become beloved members of the family. Because of the Poodle genes, this breed typically enjoys vigorous exercise, though they will not turn down a petting session either.
Managing allergies with Bernedoodles will require some extra attention and effort. First, bathe your Bernedoodle regularly to remove allergen-causing dander from their coat. Also, since Bernedoodles are a crossbreed with Poodle genetics, their coats may need to be trimmed to reduce the amount of loose hair that would normally collect animal dander. Vacuuming and wiping their coat down with a damp rag are also effective ways to remove excess dander.
It is best to choose a dog food that provides high-quality protein, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids for a Bernedoodle. Look for a product that contains fresh, whole ingredients as well as probiotics to support healthy digestion. Consider adding wet and dry foods to your Bernedoodle’s meal plan to ensure they are getting a balanced, nutrient-packed diet. Make sure the food is suited to the age, size, and activity level of your Bernedoodle, as different stages of life often require different levels of certain nutrients.
Bernedoodles can vary in their needs depending on their size, coat type, and activities. Although Bernedoodles are often low-shedding and therefore have less grooming needs than some other breeds, they do require brushing and regular brushing is essential to maintain their coat. Bernedoodle owners should also plan to have their pet's coat clipped every few months, depending on the individual dog's needs. Bernedoodles may also require special shampoos to keep their coats shiny and healthy.
Bernedoodles can range in size depending on their breed parents, as they are a mix of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. Generally, adults can range from 10 pounds, for the tiniest versions, to more than 100 pounds. On average, a Bernedoodle is between 40 and 70 pounds, and 18 to 26 inches tall when fully grown. Generally speaking, the amount of Poodle bred will determine the size of the Bernedoodle. Contact your breeder for questions about the litter size as it will provide an estimate for the size of your pup.
There is no definitive answer as to how many minutes per day you should walk your Bernedoodle, as this can depend on several factors such as its age, size, and level of exercise it is accustomed to. As a general guideline, you should aim to walk your Bernedoodle at least 30 minutes a day, and gradually increase this amount over time. Walking your Bernedoodle daily is beneficial for its physical and mental wellbeing, and helps keep it healthy and fit. Consider setting and sticking to a schedule wherein you regularly exercise your Bernedoodle at least 30 minutes at a time.
Absolutely! Bernedoodles are generally known for being some of the most friendly and good-natured dogs around, particularly when it comes to being around small kids. Families with children will be especially pleased to know that Bernedoodles are protective of those they love, making them a great companion for the whole family. Bernedoodles also have a lot of energy and love being active, making them perfect companions for days spent outdoors playing with the kids.
Training a Bernedoodle depends on a few different factors. Since these pups have endless energy and require a lot of exercise, how much training time depends on how old they are, their breed heritage and their activity level. Generally, the younger the Bernedoodle is, the more training they need. Puppies should be trained for at least 30 minutes per day in small doses with frequent rewards. That said, adult Bernedoodles may need up to an hour or more of exercise and training every day.
